Atlanta acquired All-Star first baseman Matt Olson from Oakland for four prospects: outfielder Cristian Pache (the Braves' No. 1 prospect, per MLB Pipeline), catcher Shea Langeliers (ranked No. 2) and pitchers Joey Estes (No. 14) and Ryan Cusick.
The writing was pretty much on the wall but no way I would have given up Shea Langeliers!

I'm OK with the decision to let him go. The Braves can acquire a lot of other really good players for $200 million.

From what I understand, the holdup was Freeman wanted 6 years and the Braves wouldn't go beyond 5 years.

SMH. Olson is good, but the leadership and experience that Freddie has are virtually impossible to replace.

how badly he wanted to be a Brave and if he wanted to retire in Atlanta.
If he can get $200 million+ on the open market, more power to him. There are only about three or so teams that can afford to do that which means he'll likely be playing for the Yankees, the Dodgers or the Red Sox. Maybe the Angels or Giants.

6-5 240 lb baseball players generally don’t age well. No one I would have gone longer than 3 years for Freddie. See Albert Pujols on the back end of his massive contract. Unfortunately, it was going to take Freddie taking less on if he wanted a contract past age 35
