TNET: Lyn-J Dixon using lack of playing time in title game as motivation

Lyn-J Dixon using lack of playing time in title game as motivation

Despite carrying the ball for over 500 yards and five touchdowns and playing on a national championship team during his freshman campaign, Lyn-J Dixon isn’t finding it difficult to find motivation ahead of the 2019 season. Full Story »

Did he not play a snap in the title game? Didn't realize

Apr 4, 2019, 10:42 AM

that and it seems crazy considering we were able to pull the starters. Was he fully healthy?

Re: Did he not play a snap in the title game? Didn't realize

Apr 4, 2019, 10:46 AM

I think he was healthy but Adam Choice got all the carries once the game was put away since it was his final game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ahh, that's understandable then. Thanks

Apr 4, 2019, 10:57 AM

still a bummer for Lyn-J though

I hope that LJD knows that every Tiger fan is pulling for him to be a big success. He is one of a few who I haven’t heard a tigernetter complain about ..... and that is saying something. Some on this “bored”would complain about eating chocolate nut sundies!

Bummer for sure, but an oversight imo by the responsible coach. Has a great attitude I'm glad to say.

Didn't he put the ball on the ground in a drive against the coots? I was thinking that might be why he didn't get snaps.

He did - but not sure that was all on him? Looked like it was on the exchange......

Re: TNET: Lyn-J Dixon using lack of playing time in title game as motivation

I've been meaning to ask about Dixon numerous times since I could not remember seeing him on a single play in the NC game. I kept watching and expecting to see him come in late in the game, but it was not to be. I did not want to bring it up because I thought there was some issue that Dabo chose to keep him on the sidelines, and there was no use in discussing that and throwing shade on such a talented player. Dixon is one of my favorite players, but they need to get him in space, not run him between the tackles. JMO though.

When he gets past the line of scrimmage, he creates his own space.

I think it was his second or third carry of the season

Apr 4, 2019, 3:28 PM

that I went "Yep, that's a future NFL RB right there." If he stays the course, Lyn-J can be as good as any back we've ever had (except probably Spiller), and that's saying a lot.

Your post implies Spiller was our best RB.

Apr 4, 2019, 4:01 PM

He's near the top, fo' sho, but I think he lags a respectable distance behind James Davis.

I'd put Andre Ellington and Terry Allen in a virtual tie with him too.

I'd like to put Gallman in the mix....if he had played 4 seasons I think he'd own every RB stat at Clemson, but it's hard to compare him to the others....they didn't have an all world passing threat to keep defenses honest, and I think their yards gained were probably a little harder to come by than Wayne train.

Re: Your post implies Spiller was our best RB.

Apr 4, 2019, 10:14 PM

Well - Obed - I would probably vote Spiller as our best RB too. Davis was certainly a great back - but seemed to (gulp) take plays off occasionally. Never saw Spiller take a play off - always played with intensity! Also Spiller did not have the surrounding talent that some of the other great backs had. And there have been many great backs at Clemson - including the ones you named. This is just my personal opinion of course......

I dunno if Davis took plays off or not, but if he did,

Apr 4, 2019, 11:30 PM

he still rushed for 3881 yds and 47 TD's in 4 years to Spiller's 3547 yds and 32 TD's, with the same OL for 3 of their 4 years, so it's an easy comparison.

Spiller may have been more exciting to watch, but I'll take Davis's results all day long.

Re: I dunno if Davis took plays off or not, but if he did,

Apr 5, 2019, 12:37 AM

Obed - I'm not trying to disparage Davis' results at all ... He was a great player - and I thorougly enjoyed watching him play. However, if you want to look at total contributions to the Tigers offense - including rushing, pass receptions, punt returns and kickoff returns - Spiller definitely stands out. For rushing and pass receptions Davis had 4322 yards with 49 TD's vs 4967 yards and 43 TD's for Spiller. Adding in punt and kickoff returns yields 4335 yards and 49 TD's for Davis and 7019 yards with 51 TD's for Spiller. So - I think this is an easy compaarison -:). With these results - how can you not take Spiller as the top RB?!?

All purpose player? Sure, give CJ the nod....

Apr 5, 2019, 9:21 AM

and as you guys said, this my argument holds nothing against CJ, but for a "pure" running back? C'mon, it's Davis all day.

I don't know why Buffalo became the place where Clemson stars's carers went to die, but I would have loved to have seen CJ's NFL career had he been drafted elsewhere.

On the Field You Can Argue But Not For What He Meant to Clemson

Apr 5, 2019, 8:56 AM

You can certainly argue about who was/is the best RB on the field. Spiller, Davis, Allen, Etienne (eventually), and do not forget about Banks McFadden. He may have been the best. But, there is no question that off the field and what he did and is still doing for Clemson, CJ is the GOAT. If not for CJ, Dabo would not be our head coach, we would not have gotten the players we have seen in the last 10 years and we would not have 2 recent Nattys with more on the horizon. The night of Jan 22, 2006 when CJ committed privately to Dabo changed Clemson football forever. Don’t get me wrong. In terms of men and football players, Deshaun is up there, and Christian certainly is up there, but there will never be another like CJ simply because he was the first. I was fortunate enough to sit by him on a plane from New Orleans one time and he is the nicest, most humble and unassuming person. He is the epitome of a Clemson man (not just football player) that Dabo recruits so well. I hope, and expect, that he will be the next inductee to the Ring of Honor, which should then be followed by Watson and then Wilkins.

5.9 ypc vs. 5.2, and CJ has a thousand more receiving yards.***

I guess it depends on how you evaluate it.

Apr 5, 2019, 9:18 AM [ in reply to Your post implies Spiller was our best RB. ]

If you're talking pure RB just runs between the tackles, then JD is probably better. At virtually everything else, CJ gets the edge. If you swap out CJ for James Davis in the '09 ACCCG we lost to GT, how badly do we lose? Because they simply could NOT stop Spiller, even when they knew he was our only threat.

Ellington was an off-brand Spiller, no way that's a virtual tie. Allen is who I would consider our second best RB all-time.

Etienne has a chance to work his way into the conversation too, but he's at such an advantage with regards to the team around him that it's hard to judge.

I love how the Elliott quote shows the team’s focus on doing things the right way and not allowing bad habits to continue just because they haven’t been exposed yet.

was the best line from this article. Dixon is a back with a ton of potential. Seems from all accounts he's ready to put in the work with Elliott. Staying hungry and keeping that good attitude he's sure to see alot more playing time. Hoping for Dixon to have a BIG season.
