Neighbors and the vaxxing thing

Aug 17, 2021, 7:56 AM

has gotten fairly intense

The mask mandate for CCSD came out and they are fuming. One dude is sending his kid to private church school now to avoid the masks.

They are all over the long term physiological impacts of the kids and have become armchair doctors over the last 18 months.

Can anyone please explain for me?
All of them had FDA approval and they were vaccines and not shots. (in regards to shots kids get at birth and the first couple of years)
What is the difference in a shot and a vaccine? (asked by other guy)
Not sure but I know we get a flu shot and not a flu vaccine (first guy)

Not in the medical field, so after that disclaimer

Here's my understanding. The COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna are using a different technology from past vaccines. Those older vaccines use a dead virus (the really old ones used weakened or even small amounts of live virus) to train your body to fight off the live one if you encounter it. These new ones identify a piece of it and use that piece to train your body to keep it from attaching to your cells which keeps it from reproducing. You're not getting the entire virus, dead, weakened, or alive, from the injection.

IMHO, the "shot vs vaccine" is wordsmithing since the technology is different.

so it's essentially the same thing?

And the dead, weakened, semi alive thing is why the flu shot is different every year and there is always the "we may have the wrong strain so flu season could be strong this year" thing, right?

That's my understanding

Some viruses, like Polio (poliomyelitis, three types by the way) are stable and the same vaccine will work without modification. Others, like influenza, mutate and scientists modify the vaccine (shot) to catch up before it changes again.

Just my take but shot vs vaccine is like tissue vs Kleenex.

What about "inoculations?"

JK, I think you have heard and understand this the same way I do.

Just don't let this thread get to the mange!

It will spiral out of control in seconds!

For some reason in the Upstate, where it's not mandated

for the kids to wear masks, there's still a huge fuss over it. Pickens county already had to go to virtual because of the huge surge in cases and I've seen FB rants about "it's the vaccinated people that seem to be catching it." For the first time in my life, I actually played out the scenario in my head of what it would be like/what it would take to move. How we have politicized this and not looked at this from a strictly scientific standpoint is blowing my mind, but not surprising since most of these people are the ones that barely got out of high school. I am ready for a vaccine for the young so that we can fully let this plague sort our species out.
