I got blasted for saying naming TL the starter was a bad idea

Sep 26, 2018, 2:54 PM

Not that he didn't deserve it, but the plan was to keep playing both of them, so why #### off KB.

Now we know where that got us.

Are you really suggesting we tip toe around a single players feelings? Would you suggest we didn't clap as loud when TL took the field too?

and you are still wrong

no need to take away KB's options

When did Dabo tell Bryant he wouldn't be playing?***

You think the plan was to rotate them all year?

That was never going to be a permanent thing. They rotated because they needed one or the other to separate from the other. TL did that, so the rotation was going to stop. KB would still play some, but mostly garbage time and in a wildcat package. So why would Dabo not reward productivity and let the best player play? So K.B. didn’t get his feelings hurt?

At the end of the day did it really matter !?!?!

Sep 26, 2018, 3:11 PM

Somebody had to be the starter and walk out on the field for that first offensive series, but they were both going to play.

Did it matter who actually started?

Apparently it was all that mattered to KB.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

of course it mattered.

1 more snap would have taken away KBs ability to transfer.

there is no secret to why dabo made this decision now instead of any day after the 29th.

gave kb time to think and TL time to practice for Cuse.

Delusional.
Not real life.
Just hide from the elephant in the room, is not a good option.
Make the best decision and move on.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

Oh, so you are saying you'd prefer a locker room that is run by the players and not by the coaches...where they don't play the players that earn and win it but the ones who feel entitled to play based on previous year's laurels??

Trevor was the right choice...deal with it:

In my mind it is Dabo's way of being fair.

Sep 26, 2018, 3:36 PM

He could have handcuffed KB to Clemson by Starting him this week but he knew now was the time to make the move based on performance and timing so that KB would have the ability to transfer if he wanted to. That being said I don't think that Dabo really thought KB would transfer and that is the reason he is disappointed with the decision.

All in all, Dabo made a move for Clemson and KB made a move for himself. I don't blame either one for the decisions they made.

Has it occurred to anyone that maybe Kelly forced this?

Sep 26, 2018, 4:04 PM

Maybe he was so upset about playing time during the GT game - let's face it, the writing was on the wall - that he told the coach that he wanted a decision now?

Kelly wasn't happy splitting reps with Trevor - he knew where this was going. There was simply no keeping him happy as long as we intended to get TL in the games. Because when TL took the field the offense took off, the fans cheered, the media talked about it. In short, Kelly didn't like the way things were playing out. There was no way to throw a blanket over what was staring everyone in the face.

So Kelly did what people often mistakenly do in a bad situation - they demand a decision. He got it. He got angry - that 'emotional meeting' Dabo talked about. He didn't want to hear any 'coach-speak' on the issue. He wanted the darn job. Dabo didn't back down. KB made his decision.

I've had to fire a number of people in my career - I was always a bit amused at the one's who saw it coming and marched in demanding to know if I was going to do it. So they got it then rather than on my timetable. I guess they figured that somehow made sense.

Pretty much nailed it! During the Fall camp, I almost never buy it when players agree that the competition is making them better and they "embrace" it. They don't. They want to start regardless of what they do in practice, because all players think that they are better. I am sure that Kelly thought that he was being disrespected based on his 16 - 2 win record. I don't don't blame Kelly for leaving, although I wish he had chosen his words more carefully and in a few weeks he may wish that too. He just said what he "felt", but he should expect that others who love Clemson are just saying what they "feel"!
