Blackstone griddle

What's the deal with these? Everyone I know either has one, or is getting one. How's it different than cooking on a grill?
I guess I don't understand what the fuss is. Enlighten me.

Make 2 field trips.

The first to waffle house. Order a patty melt and hasbrowns.
The 2nd to a hibachi joint where they cook in front of you. Order hibachi.
Watch, observe, then go buy a blackstone.
Bacon. Think about bacon.

And hashbrowns - every time I do hashbrowns on the grill, they fall through the holes

The only time a griddle would appeal to me is if it's portable. No real need to griddle at home, but I used to have a portable one and pancakes and bacon in the morning at the tailgate for noon games was fantastic.

There's very few things I could do on one that I couldn't do on a skillet, except with a skillet I wouldn't be splattering grease all over my deck. If I'm cooking outside, I'm going to be smoking or grilling, and not approximating the day to day of the average short order cook.

I've had mine for 2 years and use it frequently. Get this, I DON'T EVEN HAVE A GRILL ANYMORE. Why? Exactly, why?
Blackstone and a smoker will take care of ALL of your outdoor cooking needs.
Skillet? Lol. Certainly will work great for a family of 1 with 3 cats.
Want to cook for 5? 15? Blackstone is your answer. Ain't nothing splatters on nothing.

is that you get the munchies and end up just driving to Burger King because messing with the grill seems like a lot of work when you're stoned.
That IS what you meant, right?

No, friend, talking about a nice large skillet/griddle on the large, luxurious commercial grade stainless burners in my outdoor kitchen/bar area, not some 1985 Black and Decker griddle. I understand how you must have felt initially about my opinion now, and I forgive you for placing me in the same stratosphere as FBC.

flat-grill cooking just seems like indoor stuff, and I've done enough time in my life as a cook in a restaurant that the same style cooking just seems the opposite of exciting. There's a time and a place though for em, but I'm willing to bet that 75% of these blackstone purchases end up collecting dust like greenr's friends. Was just throwin my opinion out for someone debating the purchase, not throwin shade at people who love em.

cook breakfast? Greenr and family are on the motherfu>cking GO all the time, aint nobody got time to scramble 14 eggs on a cooktop and fry a lb of bacon. It sounds great, but I eat like that maybe once a quarter, rest of the time I am eating on the go. The only time I cook breakfast is some eggs and homemade salsa for myself AFTER the kids go to school. This morning it was a shake around 10:00.

you're eating pancakes 10 mins after you turn griddle on
Apr 19, 2021, 3:59 PM
|
|
1. turn griddle on 2. go inside and mix batter while griddle warms up 3. cook pancakes 1 minute on each side tops? 4. serve and eat
not much slower than making Eggo waffles in the toaster.
Agree that eggs, bacon, has browns, etc take a bit longer.

that is a great idea. We will have a lot more room on the patio than we did with the deck, so this could fit too. I have zero garage space left. I swear I am going to just start throwing things out. The garage is tidy as I am OCD, but too much stuff. There are at least two bike I could sell too.

I keep thinking about this as well...
Apr 19, 2021, 12:31 PM

but I've learned how to manage the temperature well enough and I got a thermometer set up that uses wifi so I cooked a pork butt at 230-250 all day Sunday and didn't open the egg up between putting the egg on and doing the wrap at 160. We ran errands, took the baby to the park, exercised, etc. Only had to adjust the vents twice until after the stall when I cranked it up a bit.
I can't decide if a pellet grill would make me feel lazy.

And you don't splatter grease all over your kitchen cooking bacon. And I've got five kids, who have friends over to sleep all the time, ain't no cooktop griddle big enough to cook enough pancakes for that kind of army.

unless I'm cooking it outside on the griddle, which I don't always do.
Especially now, since I still need to have a gas line run to the griddle at the new house. Or convert it back to propane, which I'd prefer not to do.

For me it comes down to the following...
Apr 19, 2021, 3:22 PM
|
|
I can cook a lot of stuff at different temps at the same time and clean up is easy and it doesn't smell up the house. Plus I get to be outside while doing it.
Things I cook on it: Breakfast - bacon, hash browns, pancakes, eggs, sausage, grill/toast bread
Burgers - make nice thin burgers - can cook bacon at the same time - onions, mushrooms, etc... - toasting the buns on the griddle makes a big diff IMO
Chick sammies - see above
Philly cheese steak or chicken sammies
Hibachi - do it just like the steak houses
If you're cooking only for 1 or 2 people, then it probably makes less sense. But if you're cooking for a family of 4, plus friends, then it's a rock star.
How is it different than cooking on a grill...well it is a flat surface, versus grill grates. Some stuff better on grill and some stuff better on griddle.
