Final Exams Nightmare

Apr 27, 2022, 4:47 PM

I understand that final exams begin next Monday the 2nd.

My last final exam at Clemson was in 1977 but I still have a bad dream around every time final exams begin. It's the same thing basically. I'm in my final semester my Senior year and I realize that I haven't been to some math class since the first week of the semester. And now I've got to pass the course in order to graduate. I don't mind saying that I've woken up plenty of times in a cold sweat over the past 45 years because of this!

I have this dream also!

Apr 27, 2022, 4:57 PM

Sometimes mine gets intermingled with high school, and not only do I have an exam in a class I forgot to attend but I can't find my locker, and when I do I can't remember the combination.

I would guess that over the years I have had those same dreams about a dozen times.

I don’t know why those dreams are so frightening for me.

Not in a very long time

Apr 27, 2022, 5:00 PM

but yeah...... I had those nightmares in the past.

an error. I actually didn't pass calculus. So I have to come back and do it over again to keep my degree.

I wake up in a heated sweat every time....those co-eds in that class were fire!

Strange how so many people have very similar dreams…

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That dream must have been planted in us

Apr 27, 2022, 6:41 PM

Cuz I have the exact same dream….

Wow, spooky.

Same dream here also. I believe this happens because I actually did forget to go to a scheduled class on a Friday one time the first week of school. I was so shocked that I forgot to go because I was there on Monday and Wednesday. So subconsciously that fear of missing one unintentionally is always there. Therefor the dream comes up From time to time. How many of that has happened to you?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think everyone who had to struggle to graduate (as I did)

Apr 27, 2022, 7:12 PM

has had that nightmare in some form or another. Those who are tech savvy could search the Archives for my old post "My Clemson Nightmare-A Novel". Mine was mostly real.

I wonder if it's like the "falling" nightmares where the anecdote is that if you don't wake up before you hit the ground, you die. Could the dream police come and take my Clemson degree after all this time if I don't wake up, and flunk?

:)

Crap, that hit pretty close to home for me... I've had a recurring

Apr 27, 2022, 7:38 PM

dream/nightmare off and on since I finished in '79. And I was a math major. In mine, I'm running around Martin Hall desperately trying to find a certain professor. I need this class to graduate and never turned in the "big final project" that counts 50% of your semester grade. Don't turn it in and get a 0, you fail. It's like the last day of finals, most students have already left for home, and the buildings are mostly empty. His office is dark and the door is locked, as are most others. But I gotta find him, so I'm running down the halls looking for anyone I can find, maybe they can tell me how I can get in touch, or something. I'm sweating and running up and down the stairs of Martin Hall...

Have had that dream many times, I'd say about every two years or so. I always wake up in total panic mode...

Math class must cause these dreams a lot. Mine is calculus and same thing, haven’t been to class, content is beyond my ability, and I’ll never get in medical school! What a relief to wake up and realize it’s just a dream.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This dream is uncanny

Apr 27, 2022, 8:14 PM

I can't tell you how many times I've had the exact same dream dealing with a math class final exam at Clemson. Fortunately my mind is able to wake me up enough to figure out that it's not real and I'm in the middle of a dream at which point the panic goes away.

Wow I’ve had such a similar reoccurring dream. It’ll be some class that I was suppose to be in and hadn’t gone to all semester. Have a failing grade and now I won’t graduate and have to come back for another semester. Cold sweat for sure.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Had the same dream with all the sbove

Apr 27, 2022, 8:30 PM

variations- plus one where I was frantically trying to find the correct room where the class was supposed to be held in. But my 1st semester reality was worse than any nightmare- I got food poisoning on Sunday night the day before finals started- went to the infirmary- nurse gave me a shot & I went to sleep & woke up on Wednesday morning- missed 4 exams & was so weak I had to sit down to rest every few yards when going back to my dorm

Wow

Count me in for also having that same anxiety dream about twice a year! Always the same ; a sudden realization that I neglected a class and the exam / semester is coming to a close.

used to have that one too. I also got a Masters while working full time. Any summer or holiday downtime then I would feel guilty and think there must be something school wise to do. I was so regimented and programmed then to make every minute count. Odd how you get programmed during times like that

Reality based dream: I forgot about a freshman English class with a theme scheduled and cut it. Ben Skardon let me make it up and just chopped my grade down a letter for my stupidity. (Your mileage may vary, but I loved Skardon and his class, not even knowing about his history at the time.) Anyhow, for the rest of my time at Clemson, and a couple more decades, my dream was having spaced out and cut a quiz or forgotten I needed to do a term paper. I eventually forgot about those dreams, but they'll probably start again now. Thanks, guys.

Have these wild dreams about missing tests and can’t find their classes etc. I’ve had these kinds of dreams for years. They seem so real and I’m really happy when I wake up and realize it’s just a dream.

I have similar nightmares. I'm at graduation and realize there is a class or two that I had not attended. I wake up in a big sweat. And like you, it was a Clemson graduation in 1977.

there's a class I haven't attended all semester, and I'm wandering around through several buildings, trying to figure out where the class meets!

had this type of dream. LOL.

'77 grad here also!

What I hated were the professors that said no exemptions from the final, then when you show up, they name the students who do not have to take it. Yes, it was a math professor that did this!

I doubt that anyone who was exempting final exams ever

has "the dream". It mostly happens to those of us who had to agonize over actually making it through, at one point or another.
