Level of competition needs to improve

Dec 2, 2013, 10:39 AM

If we are ever going to take the next step, we have to play stronger competition every week like South Carolina does. Playing in the ACC is like playing JV football in high school. Football has changed the past 6 or so years and we are getting left behind staying in the ACC. Other conferences are getting bigger and stronger. The ACC is only getting stronger in basketball.

The problem here is our admin will not take a money hit

to help our Tigers play a stronger schedule on the road. They have to have these small games for the money not the schedule PR. If we could abandon that mentality we would get chances to play big games on the road and at home that will help us going into a place like WB.

I don't understand that arguement.

We PLAY in the ACC! We have to play that schedule! We scheduled GA and we play South Carolina every year. Prior to that we played a series against Auburn. We played SC State and the Citadel out of conference. Our scheduling is consistent with other power conferences. I just don't get that argument. Unless you are claiming that playing in the SEC toughens a team up beyond that of any other conference, and we aren't in the SEC, I don't get that. So we replace SC State with a home and home against... say Stanford and the Citadel with... say Michigan? Why would any team do that? Nobody is saying FSU isn't tough because they didn't play a mighty SEC schedule. Is it FSU's fault that Florida took a crap? Help me out on this one.

This has to do with the 4 team playoff. Teams with best

wins against best competition will be the ones going to these games. People have already talked about teams all over having to beef up their schedule.

So let's replace SC State with Marshall or South Florida

Dec 2, 2013, 11:07 AM

or something. Louisville is in next year and MD is out. Let's hope they raise the level of play. Bama played VA Tech and who else out of conference? This whole... this conference is so strong and they beat each other up is perception. I think it was the Auburn Pres on ESPN already trying to stake a claim to the title game if they are a one loss team and OSU and FSU are undefeated. Sorry not everyone plays in the mighty SEC my friend. If OSU and FSU are undefeated after next week, maybe the SEC should think about disbanding so they don't cannibalize one another. They seem to enjoy eating each other out and lifting their winner up in glory. The ##### do it all the time.

All the secenarios has to be in place and a little bit of luck along the way to having a successful season. The least path of resistant surely helps. Uncontrolable obstables such injuries, hard fault and physically fault ball games can be your worst nightare on the road to success.

record of the 10 teams we beat was 58-63. The best was SC State (FCS)at 9-4. Next was Georgia at 8-4. We beat 4 FBS teams with a winning record. UGA 8-4, BC, GT, and Maryland all were 7-5. Obviously the two we lost to had a 22-2 record. Those are the numbers and you can draw your own conclusions. For me, we were a "good" team that had a "good" season. "Great" should not be used with this team or season due to being 1-2 in the marquee games and losing to the rival for a fifth consecutive year and suffering another humiliation on national TV.

Did it help Georgia or Florida, or did the ACC hurt FSU. No excuses, play ball, play to win with the hand you have at the moment, and let the chips fall where they may. College football is uncertain. I don't care what conference you are playing in.

BS, the level of execution in big games needs to improve.

Dec 2, 2013, 11:22 AM

usUc PROBABLY PLAYED AN EASIER SCHEDULE THIS YEAR THAN cLEMSON. tHEY DIDN'T HAVE THE SCHEDULE uga OR tENNESSEE HAD. bUT then again, conference whiners grasp at anything.

Dec 2, 2013, 11:40 AM

Vandy is better than anyone in the acc other than fsu and that includes Clemson.

And anyone who actually compares NC St, Wake, BC, Va, Syracuse to UT, Ark, Miss St, Vandy, does not know anything about the sport.

Face it, the acc is about 4/5 glorified fcs level teams.

Thats why Dabo has really not accomplished anything at Clemson. Winning the acc is akin to winning the socon.

Re: Level of competition needs to improve

Dec 2, 2013, 11:39 AM

I have said that for years. The only way to get better is to play better teams. However, with the play-off coming next year, the road to the NC is the path of least resistance.
