If not more on getting players from the portal this season. Yeah, giving him credit on Llewlyn who decommited but then another loss when commited to Michigan.
They were 0-2 today, and now their answer might be the 6-8 stretch 4 from one of the weaker mid major conferences visiting Monday. I'm sorry someone won't like potential minutes of him, Sheff, Middleton, Wiggins and even Godfrey, and not to mention PJ and Tyson.
Losing your two most experienced PGs snd a big wing to replace David Collins you think they could have convinced one pretty good one that would start with two potential top front court players in the ACC and good but not great young talent.
Some teams are cleaning up in the portal and they can't even sniff one top 60 type portal player. Sorry it isn't Galloway.
So what brought this on?
Is it NIL, Two new assistant coaches, Neff's letter about Brad, all of the above, or something else?

The way its going now yes. I mean I like PJ and Tyson a lot. Hunter also came on, but no assurances that any of these other young guys is an immediate factors. Galloway and Hemenway are role players at best.
All of the major portal targets that they were involved with at point guard and big wing have already gone somewhere else.

Neff gave both new assistants fully guaranteed 2 years contracts at significant bumps from their predecessors. Pretty clear signal there is now no pressure on next year’s performance.

It’s pretty obvious any sense of urgency evaporated when Neff signaled that he has two years to have a decent season by giving both assistants two year contracts. Brad’s buyout doesn’t change much. If he wasn't going to fire him this year he isn’t gonna do it next when he just deliberately made it cost almost 50% more. Next year will be a disaster then we’ll sneak into the NIT in 2024 and re-up Brad for another 6 years. Regardless of his letter, all signals are that Neff is fully willing to let our basketball program die on the vine.

Bottom 1/3 of the ACC. No postseason. Probably a losing overall record but I don’t know the non-conference schedule to make a firm prediction. We won’t fare well in the the tourney with Cal, Iowa, and TCU. This team will be a significant step back from this year which was a significant step back from last year.

the 6’8” forward from UMKC because they think he would be an upgrade over some of the bigs we currently have.
We wouldn’t be pursuing him if we didn’t think he would help. We aren’t going to bring someone in just to fill a scholarship.
Have you ever considered that?

The deadline for players to transfer and not have to sit out has passed unless they get waiver. Most players won't take that chance.
If they sign him, do you think Clemson has addressed their needs losing their two most experienced guys at PG, and big wing after losing David Collins?

however, there is zero to be encouraged and hopeful about when it comes to Clemson basketball. Well, except that Neff has signaled a desire to have a better basketball program, but absolutely NOTHING happening with the program right now gives any reasonable, sober person reason to be encouraged or hopeful. If we do wind up with a player that's truly an upgrade, THEN I'll feel better about it, because we need some serious upgrades if we are going to be relevant.

Right now, as of today, we are worse than we were then. Granted, we're not done yet, but we've got a great big hill to climb in a short period of time if we are going to be relevant in basketball this coming season. Anything else is somewhere between the normal wishful but totally unobjective thinking of a loyal fanbase, and flat out psychedelic hallucination.

Very true, but unfortunately most of the good transfers in the portal have already selected the school. If Clemson gets the big forward who again they don't need he and Galloway will be rated in the bottom teams in the power 6 portal ratings.

studs, but barring that, I've accepted that this season will be tough, and the final chapter in the Brownell story at Clemson. I have a glimmer of hope that Neff and the powers that be see the value in a strong basketball program and will set about making that happen.
