Little Bit Worried .........

Dec 4, 2022, 10:24 AM

that maybe our expectations for Cade may have been distorted by the game he had against UNC. Go back a couple of years when a freshman QB had a great game against the Fighting Irish and set the record for passing yards in their stadium. I think many of us thought that he should do that every game, especially against lowly opponents not named Notre Dame. Anybody remember a QB for Texas A&M who defeated Alabam last year, transferred to Auburn, never to be heard from again?

I am not justifying Dabo's handling of our QB situation, or saying that DJ should have started or not, or that Cade should have had more playing time (I think he should have), but remember Cade may have some games where everyone is wondering why Chris Vicenzza isn't getting more playing time after Cade has a 2 pick game and a fumble.

So let's be happy for Cade, Clemson, the ACC Championship, but remember we are all human and make mistakes and temper our expectations.

PS: Maybe Mack Brown was right, they did not prepare for Cade ..... or at least a QB that could play like Cade did. Still doesn't explain their lack of offensive production where it really counts ...... the red zone.

No one is as good or as bad as you think they are. Ebbs and flows will always happen. Great insight post above. I do believe Cade should have played earlier, but I also believe DJ isn't as bad as a lot of us think he is. It worked out tonight, and I hope it will work out much more in the future. Even DW and TL had those head scratching early games in the season..... Troy comes to mind in our Natty year.

Kind of off topic, but that was a really good Troy team. They only had two losses that year, Us and Bama.

You are correct... Troy did very well that year. But I think you get my point... games vs La Tech, Furman where we crushed them at the end but it was close at halftime. Slow starts with both TL and DW where there were grumblings in the crowd.

Look at any team including our natty teams... they always have a couple games where it was much closer than it should have been. UGA this year vs Mizzu is an example. Every team has those games. We have those games.

Fair points. I admit I may have had DJ penciled in for a Heisman and natty after that 2020 ND game. Unlike a few coaches I know, I can admit I may have been wrong on my assessment...

I don’t think anyone is saying Cade will be DW or TL

Dec 4, 2022, 10:29 AM

But to not see the electricity and fire he brings to the team (and could have been sooner than they let him) is frustrating. Preparing for him will be harder for teams than preparing for DJ.

It's not the result, it's how he ran the offense.

Dec 4, 2022, 10:30 AM

With Cade making decisions and leading the team like that, we might go 10-3 next year. You never know what could happen. But at least with good execution and leadership we have a chance.

Not worried but also not going to expect that every week from a young QB who hasn’t played much at all j til last night.
Now there is video, things for teams to prepare for, tendencies.
Keep in mind UNC might have one if the worst defenses in ACC.

Just keep practicing and improving, reading defenses, learning audibles, cadences, and all will work out as it should.

Go Tigers ??

Huhhhh? Please post if you want, but try and make sense.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We just need him to NIL his way to a private QB coach

Dec 4, 2022, 10:35 AM

and for Streeter to leave his mechanics alone and they should be able to avoid repeating that mistake.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree and we have to keep in mind that last night

Dec 4, 2022, 10:37 AM

he was playing a glorified high school defense. No doubt he should start but he's not going to fix all the offensive woes we've had this year.

You can see a huge difference in the way he throws the ball compared to DJ. Even as a freshman I noticed that DJ's passes were incredibly wobbly. Cade throws a tight spiral most of the time. Maybe not Trevor-level throws, but lightyears ahead of the best DJ could do.

I think Stetson Bennett shows us all we don’t need them to be DW4 or TL. Just be a solid QB and do your job. Cade can do that

Yes ..... really impressed with Stetson, but it helps to have three tight ends that are just monsters!

It will definitely be different when defenses start preparing for Cade’s game. That’s where the intangibles come into play.

It will definitely be interesting to see how he looks when teams have tape on him and it's his game/team without any qualifiers.

I would presume that most games are not going to be like UNC but I would also be willing to bet that he won't have any 8/29 games either. He's got the juice/energy that the team feeds off of and finally having a threat to throw the ball down the field will only make things easier for Shipley/Mafah, etc.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

hes young and going to make mistakes

Dec 4, 2022, 2:04 PM

but thing is though he showed an ability to give the defense a couple things to think about...one he can throw down field, two he can run so the zone read becomes a threat, three you have to account for the rbs as well..with dj the defenses just had to load the box and dared dj to beat them with his arm..with cade there are multiple threats...also note that was with out any practice with the 1s ..one has to assume he will get better the more reps he gets.

What Mack Brown said was very likely a factor. I remember when Dan Marino was playing his last several years with the Dolphins. He was a statue in the pocket. Zero threat with his legs. EVERY time he got injured and had to leave a game his backup would play lights out and they would usually win because the opponent had prepared all week for the Marino statue in the pocket. I’m not comparing DJ to Marino or Cade to the backups but just pointing out that when the opponent prepares for one QB and a guy with a different skill set comes in it usually works well for the offense.
