Mission Accomplished

Apr 21, 2021, 7:09 AM

As I peruse Tigernet this AM it’s clear the mission has been accomplished.

Divisiveness is alive and well.

Lots of pointing out black on black crime, more police killings, killings of innocent children, pointing fingers at media, pointing fingers at politicians, requests for proof that incidents were racially driven, questioning systemic racism and the list goes on.

I’m not pointing fingers at any posters, so please don’t take anything personally.

It’s just wild that in our little portion of the internet the divisiveness is so strong. I can’t imagine what’s happening on the bigger stage.

I just may fake my death and go chill on the beach with Tupac and Biggie and watch the tide ebb and flow.

Y’all be nice to each other today

I'm probably a minority here

Apr 21, 2021, 7:53 AM

No pun intended.

I think the jury reached the right verdict. Thought the cop should have been fired then charged. It has nothing to do with race in my book. Maybe the cops actions were racially motivated, maybe not. Doesn't matter to me. I've seen cops kill for justified reasons before as well. This wasn't one of those. White guy killed I'd have the same opinion here. Black cop and white guy.... Same.

I'm not one to get into camps on things. I make a living literally calling things as I see them. As soon as you have an agenda your credibility is shot. That's true in my line of work and in life in general. And I deal with people with all kinds of agendas. Not just racial or political. But their agendas don't matter to me in doing my job and I flat out tell them. I tell them what I do and why and they calm down knowing I have no agenda.

One of the biggest indicators of ignorance (not meant in a negative sense but lacking knowledge) is when someone has an agenda and a belief and that leads them to assume everyone else has an agenda as well. I work for an insurance company so someone assumes I'm trying to screw them. In reality I'm facilitating their getting paid. I don't care if their claim is denied or accepted or is $400 or $400,000. I don't care if someone's a crackhead or gay or mean or racist or liberal or whatever. I don't care if someone cheated on their spouse with his brother or her sister. Don't care about anything other than doing my job.

Dude was a drug addict, on drugs, had covid, and was probably going to die anyway. But the cop kept him pinned after he lost consciousness, and for 2 more minutes while he was dead. No excuse. Racial? Doesn't matter. No excuse. And cops have their own agendas as well. And a concurrent level of ignorance. It's common. In all professions. George Floyd probably as well. And smart people prey on ignorance. It's almost institutionalized in the US. Credit cards exist because of the people who run up debt on them. Without those dumb people who max out their credit cards, no one else would get the benefit of having one. Smart people profit on ignorance. The media is institutionalized now pandering to ignorance as well. Politicians get donations and money from people by appealing to their ignorance.

Just how I see things. And it's really the reason we're so divided. There's money to be made dividing people. And the easiest people to divide and profit from are those with an agenda and beliefs but lack the knowledge to realize they're being used for gaining wealth or power. So whatever divides people most evenly are the most profitable issues to exploit for profit.

Of course things are divisive. The previous administration encouraged "trial by combat" and claimed election fraud without legitimate proof. It wasn't that long ago we had "Patriots" macing law enforcement and beating them with flag poles while running through the Capital building with zip ties looking for "traitors". It's going to be a while before things cool down.

I don't mind disagreement....disagreement is good.

Apr 21, 2021, 7:59 AM

It's the modern tactics of disagreement that bother me. For the most part today, those who thought he should be declared innocent or at least just guilty of manslaughter (not including myself in this group...I actually haven't paid enough attention to this case to have an opinion) seem to be grumbling and airing their grievances in verbal or written form. Nothing wrong with that. I wish I believed the same would have held true for dissenters if the verdict went the other way.

It's weird. I agree with every poster here.

Everybody in America right now is busy competing for the position of Biggest Victim. We're drawing artificial lines all over the place, us's and them's here, and here and here, black and white, liberals and conservatives, rural and urban, north and south, rich, poor, elite and Regular Joe...and depending on what side of the line you're on, those other guys, they're the real bad guys, the actual villains of this story.

And if you look, Fox News/OAN/Newsmax are really bad at this, but even CNN and MSNBC are not innocent either, there's this episodic, almost MCU-esque quality to their stories, where good-and-evil play out daily, where nothing less than the Fate of the World is at stake, and where over here (in our corner, of course) are the good guys, wearing of course, the (cough) white hats, and over there, in that corner, the arch-villains, plotting and scheming in a million sinister ways to take what's rightfully yours and rape and kill your wives and children (or worse, turn them gay! (The left has their own tropes: Nazis, systemic racism, etc...it would really help if guys like Trump hadn't leaned so enthusiastically into them at times.) Will these dastardly villains succeed?

Tune in tomorrow for the answer!

It isn't helpful, for our getting along.

If we killed social media, or maybe the entire internet, people would revert back to minding the business of their families and their social circles, care less about things that don't affect them, and society would once more be a more polite and hospitable place.

Careful dude, you're sounding like me.

Apr 21, 2021, 8:21 AM

You're too young to sound 46 years old. I think about this a lot though, and for all the things it's brought me that I enjoy, if I had the choice to revert to a pre-Internet state, I wouldn't even hesitate.

Honestly though I think Internet and social media were step one to devolution, but it turned it up to 11 when people started carrying around personal narcissism iGenerators on their person every hour of the day except while asleep.
