Catastrophic Mistakes

Catastrophic Mistakes
Everything was set up Saturday night.  Jameis Winston's famous decision making finally caught up to him and FSU was ripe for the upset.  The Atlantic Division title was at stake.  A possible ACC title was on the line.  Who knows, maybe even a birth in the national play

Catastrophic Mistakes

Sep 22, 2014, 6:19 AM

The biggest catastrophic mistakes are the OC for A: "not feeling comfortable with a QB under center" and 2: not substituting Stoudt for the QB that can't go under center. Yes, we can blame Stoudt's incomplete TD, the kicker, the kicker, the center but the two crucial plays should have been power I or "wham right" from UNDER CENTER!!!! I like Chad Morris, but DANG.

We also could have used Kurt Fleming for a power run on both plays if they were snapped under center. The guy weighs 230 lbs!

The same Kurt Fleming that fumbled against SC State with his only meaningful snaps?

Just put Choice in, he is big enough and tough enough not to fumble

I agree. Terrible play calling.

In your opinion the mistakes were too much to overcome?

Sep 22, 2014, 7:03 AM

I think the outcome of the game was proof that Clemson's mistakes were too much to overcome.

Adam Choice was a high school quarterback. Why not let him run the wildcat so that there is one extra blocker?

IMO pretty sure our mistakes were too much to overcome***

Perhaps it is me, but seems as though these big games are too much for Clemson. As far as we've come the past 4 years, we've certainly won a few (ohio state, Uga last year, and ohio state), but in others we simply can't push it over the top. I thought we played well enough (without mistakes) to beat Florida state and USC last November (remember 4 turnovers in 4th quarter). Maybe deshaun can be the alpha male leader to rally our boys against the best in the nation?

Isn't that the coaches job? We aren't losing the way

Sep 22, 2014, 9:25 AM

losing the way we are because of anuyone being against us. It is a lack of leadership/preparation/coaching.

I don't know why I bother.

Sep 22, 2014, 9:53 AM

I assume that wasn't a question for the lack of a question mark at the end of your last sentence so I'll go through this systematically.

Leadership originates with the HC. He displays it and requires it of his coordinators and players. The coordinators show it and require it of the game captains/leaders of the offense and defense and all the players. The captains lead the others with their confidence.

The players get their confidence from the captains during the game. Think Dabo stroking Tajh's ego on the sidelines after the offense went all to hail because of Tajh's failure to remain calm and lead.

Coaches can't kick field goals, coaches can't make a senior QB throw a simple pass to a tight end. Coaches can't snap the ball to the QB either. Coaches can't make a running back not fumble.

The coaches put our players into position to win that game the other night, I don't know why they always have to be the scapegoat and the players never take any blame.

Sure the coaches could have made some different calls but they left Watson in the game, best decision they have made all year if you ask me.

don't you know-when we win its all due to players, when we lose its all on the coaches. How many of you would like your career defined by the performance of 18-22 year olds????

Alexander had an unbelievable game. He was on his receiver like glue all night. Its very unfortunate that he fell on the play because thats what most people will remember. I feel sure that he will develop into the lockdown corner that we have been searching for a long time. It appears that the staff hit on most all of these freshmen. We can all see Deshaun is an awesome quarterback, but how as a coaching staff can you not have developed him to go under center. It was obvious with the formation where the ball was going on short yardage and at the goal line from the shotgun. That is a must fix

And Cole was the starter from the beginning, put him

Sep 22, 2014, 12:29 PM

in in those short yard situations. He is bigger and stronger. No need for a handoff to even happen.

Defense played great and the offense was pretty good too until Chad gave them garbage to run. I am not a coach, but I know two things as an old man that those O and D coordinators ought to be driving into the heads of the players: How do you get beat when you are ahead by a TD and have them 2nd and 24? Let 'em throw the ball over your head! How do you get beat when you have the ball at the end of a tied game deep in their territory? Let 'em knock the ball out of you hands! If the coaches are not preaching this to the boys, then fire 'em and hire some really GOOD high school coaches for a lot less $$$. Please forgive me, but usually I think that if the coaches were smart, they would have become engineers, architects, etc. rather than just jocks!!!
