Holy Hearsay Batman! The J6 committee actually having

Jun 29, 2022, 10:35 AM

a person testify that "(Someone) said Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of the SUV" is comical.

The even better part - the media's reporting of it (acting like Trump almost made the SUV go through a group of school children or something). And then ending their "reporting" by saying - "Oh by the way, sources close to the Secret Service Agents involved say that they say it never happened." So - more hearsay...

he told her that story. Simple solutions.

My guess is that will never happen. Somebody just wanted to put out a carefully worded non-denial to give the Trumpists something to cling to.

It's fine to have her testify about something she did witness (like something SHE actually heard Trump say)

Actually she said. I heard something to the effect of “Take down the mags! They're not here to hurt ME."

She heard it so good that she had to read it from a piece of paper.

it is clear you don't know what hearsay is

Jun 29, 2022, 10:58 AM

nor are you aware of the exceptions to rule.

That is understandable since you arent an attorney. However, the fake news you are watching/reading that prompted you to inject your comment should be ashamed for fostering such nonsense. It is also telling that the defense to this damning evidence is "That's Hearsay!"

The substantive silence is stunning.

If this were a court of law(it's not), then the defense could bring in those folks to refute her testimony. Yet in this case, we get the hearsay response from the SS which may or may not be true, while they admit that Trump was irate anyway, which is the bigger deal. Who cares if he grabbed the wheel and grabbed a SS agent, the fact that the idiot wanted to go down there after being advised not to is the big deal.

Jun 29, 2022, 11:44 AM [ in reply to Is there a reason the committee can't have the folks that ]

these type situations, there is no reason. I guess we will find out if the "sources" in their carefully worded non-denial are willing to actually appear under oath in front of the committee.

I would imagine, should they agree to testify, it will open up a large can of worms. The Committee likely has a number of questions that they can testify to to either corroborate the testimony of other witnesses or refute it.

Be careful what you wish for, but I am all for it.

The Today Show on NBC this morning called it "hearsay".

Jun 29, 2022, 11:12 AM [ in reply to it is clear you don't know what hearsay is ]

Legal definitions and technicalities aside, she is repeating what she claims somebody else said. Call it what you will.

Questions for you, as an attorney... (1) How vauable would this kind of testiomony be, if it is later refuted by the person actually quoted? and (2) Why would prosecution allow second hand information like this if it had not been verified?

I think ST and I saw the same reports. The website for TODAY

Jun 29, 2022, 11:31 AM [ in reply to Re: Exactly, the headline, the main message NBC wanted to ]

is a mess. But at about the 3-minute mark of this video the reporter states "which sources say has been refuted by the Secret Service" (talking about the SUV incident)

https://www.today.com/video/trump-aggressively-tried-to-join-rioters-at-capitol-former-aide-says-143060037562

There was a shorter report later with Peter Alexander (I think) where he ended his "OMG look what Trump did!" coverage by saying sources close to the Secret Service say this never happened.

(I actually doubt the Secret Service is supposed to say anything about what goes on behind closed doors with a President...)

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks - the report by Peter Alexander is there, lumped in

Jun 29, 2022, 11:53 AM

with their series of "BOMBSHELLS". The main takeaway from this report is, Trump bad. If the second hand allegations are true, he may be guilty of crimes. That was the gist of the reporting, the main message. Oh, and by the way, the people who were actually there, who have not been called to testify, dispute some of this testiomony. Now on to more Trump "BOMBSHELLS".

Jun 29, 2022, 11:47 AM [ in reply to Re: Exactly, the headline, the main message NBC wanted to ]

NBC, on this morning's Today Show led with the "EXPLOSIVE" testimony that Trump tried to force his way to the capitol and "took aim" at his own SS agents when they refused. They followed up briefly, noting that the agents themselves are disputing this account, before continuing with more of what they called a series of "bombshells. As far as I know, there is no link to anyone denying it yet, and I never said there was; I'm just reporting what has been reported. Watch here:

First of all, why is Tnet suddenly filled with Today Show viewers. That's downright suspicious.

But on a serious note, NBC did not say that anyone disputes it. They said an unnamed source says that they are "prepared to testify under oath" to dispute it. OK, when they do, let's see what they say!

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In MY defense - I try to watch the news from several

different sources. The first 15 minutes of the 7AM EST hour of the TODAY show is one of my places I watch if I happen to be around a TV. It's actually news in that 15 minutes that leans less left than the other morning shows.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not one bit suspicious in my case; I often watch The Today

Jun 29, 2022, 12:22 PM [ in reply to That's not what they said. ]

Show because it follows our local news. I always have. Here's what Peter Alexander said:

From twitter: "A source close to the Secret Service tells me both Bobby Engel, the lead agent, and the presidential limousine/SUV driver are prepared to testify under oath that neither man was assaulted and that Mr. Trump never lunged for the steering wheel."

So, you are correct, technically speaking, they are not reporting that agents are disputing it, but that sources close to the secret service are telling them the agents are prepared to dispute it under oath.

But clearly they dispute it, else statements to this effect would not have been made. They want it known here and now, those things did not happen.

We'll know if that's right if and when they actually testify under oath. Until then, the word of the unnamed source is certainly no better than Cassidy's testimony under oath.
