Dabo’s Hubris

That was the hubris that brought us where we are. And I don’t just mean the negatives… His hubris, and belief that Clemson could be an elite program, hire the best available coaches, attract the best talent, coach them up and beat anybody in the country… The hubris got us there was all Dabo.
Likewise, his hubris has gotten us where we are today… We are now a second tier program who gets really good talent, but they don’t get any better, and instead of going out and getting the absolute best coaches he could to run the offense and the defense he promoted within and went with people who had a very little experience.
So there really only is one question remaining… Will hit you recognize that and make the necessary changes. Because if we roll out the same offense and same defense, and same staff next year we can expect nothing more than the exact same result. Disappointing losses, an important office, and the defense that does just enough but have to stay on the field due to the office is ineptitude.
And if it hasn’t already it’s going to start impacting recruiting. And Dabo’s refusal to use the portal means we can’t immediately plug and play with player who might be able to impact a game immediately.
In the end, does Dabo’s hubris take us back to the top or does it continue to drag us down?

I think he’s checked out here and is ready for the challenge at Alabama. He thought he could hire from within and when he leaves his assistants would take over, but so far they have been terrible hires.

We don't have to worry about Alabama come calling for our HFC with this kind of nepotistic promotion.
We cry about wanting to be respected. Talk from time to time about how we should jump to the SEC.
This kind of staff and recruiting doesn't cut it in the SEC. Dabo acts like he's happy being the big fish in the small pond with the big payday.
That "lil ol Clemson" bit doesn't work when you can't back it up with solid play.
We need major changes before next year, not just because we lost to South Carolina, but because we don't get more from the talent we have, and because we are suckered into thinking DJ was the answer after seeing a full season's showcase last year.

THAT is the hubris. Quite frankly, I enjoyed sitting on the hill in the late ‘60s and played Alabama and losing 13-10... Sorry that sounds weird.

DJ does not have it - passion or confidence. Dabo and coaching staff have praised DJ to the heavens off the field. They do not trust him on it - play calling underlines that fact.

How many would you put on a tier? As a program I would put us behind Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, and Michigan at the moment. If current trajectories continue, then we might not be in the 2nd tier. I would tend to look at right now and say that we are still in the 2nd tier, but I would put us further back before I would classify us as top tier.

I have stayed quite on this all year but I must now speak up. Changes have to be made this off season. The changes may hurt but must be made. It all starts with Grisham and Streeter. The wide receiver room has regressed since Jeff Scott left and the QB situation has gotten worse. Watson went outside Clemson for help and Trevor’s last year he regressed somewhat but both of them succeeded because of pure talent, not coaching. DJ does not fit our offensive system. He cannot read defenses like Watson and Lawrence. It showed today that after DJ’s first target was covered, he was lost and froze. We need to NOW give Cade the helm, what do we have to loose. It will be good for him to get the experience now in the last two games.
Also forgive me, I too have drank TOO MUCH CROWN after this game.

I think it's $. We don't make the $ that bama makes or Ohio state. Because of the tv contract. So a few million over years adds up. It's a little less for recruiting budget or coaches or staff. I think it's worth 2 or 3 more wins a season.
That's why it feels like we are falling behind.
But hey we win 10 games. Yeah but year over year we won't keep up.
The super conference is coming and I hate it.
