Was playing behind 4 Coots on the golf course today

Aug 19, 2018, 6:42 PM

It was a sight to behold, wiffs, chunks, blades that carried 30 yards. Off in the woods, in the ponds and lord it was funny when in the sand. It lasted 4 holes before they pulled over and let me play through , them all in Coot shirts and caps and me with my Clemson hat. One of them said something smart alecky about my hat, I told them their football team plays about as well as they play golf. Gonna be years wondering in the weeds/woods/ponds looking for a Division title. Stepped up to the tee and hit my 5 wood 250 down the middle, told them maybe they were pulling for the wrong team and to find the light then maybe their golf game would improve.

I have about 20 range balls in my bag

Aug 19, 2018, 6:57 PM

that I stamped orange tiger paws on. Every time I know I have a coot playing behind me, I always leave one in the hole for them. I'm surprised the situation has never escalated. I do know there's at least 1 of my range balls in the woods to the left of the #5 green at Southern Oaks that was tossed by a coot a couple of weekends ago.

Where did you find a Clemson golf ball stamp?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Amazon

The one I bought was around $20 for a personalized stamp. It isn't of the highest quality, but I'm stamping range balls for coots.

Overseas we used to call range balls British Tour balls, the Brits would get a bag and keep about 1/2 in their bag to play with on the course. I guess yours would be Chicken feed?

I bought one of these a while back and tried to use a sharpie and some other stuff but can’t make it stick to the ball. Any advice?

I've got one too and I use an orange Sharpie. You have to let the Sharpie ink dry for it to last. I leave balls in the holes all the time down here in bulldog country, even had a guy catch up to me one time just to give it back.

What ya shoot? If you can hit ur 5 wood 250 and in the fairway you must be dang good unless you have no short game.

Re: Was playing behind 4 Coots on the golf course today

Beginning of the year was a 5 handicap, would REALLY like to say I am still there but that would be a dang lie. Tore my ACL and a miniscus in my left knee, the Ortho showed me the MRI and said you see this, i nodded my head and he told me it was supposed to be attached up there. Did not want to have surgery yet , he said it is fine unless I do stuff with quick lateral moves, I laughed and said not at my age. So now I am in the mid to upper 80's, still working out a consistent swing and slowly working my way back to hitting a driver. Nothing like pulling 2 off the tee OB on consecutive swings to ruin a day. Got way too much stuff running through my head on each swing right now.

#### that sucks about the acl. I tore my right one twice and my left once. Pretty sure they are both torn again but it has been years so it doesn't effect my game too much. I'm around a 10 handicap but I dang sure can't hit my 5 wood 250 lol. You live around the upstate?

DO you need a tag to hunt them or are they considered a varmit?

as you feel like your life is being threatened.

Only way I would have had my life threatened today was from laughing myself silly watching them. Heck at one point one Coot threw his club further than he hit the ball. I almost wanted to stay behind them and just play several balls as it was better than any comedy on TV.

250 yard 5 iron

Aug 19, 2018, 8:15 PM

Remind me not to play you 20 a hole/ 20 a birdie

I would be broke quick

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 250 yard 5 iron

Aug 19, 2018, 8:25 PM

It was a 5 wood, just started hitting it off the tee as opposed to a 3/4 iron . No worries on losing money, as I posted above ,currently I am hacking my way around the course. You just gotta wait for the doubt to creep in my head and watch one/two sail OB, giggle a bit and walk off with the hole. Getting old sucks!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I obviously can’t read so good

Aug 19, 2018, 8:36 PM

250 with 5 wood your driver can wait. The doubt will stop, you’ll be fine. Been playing I was 7. The wayward shots are to keep you from remembering the good ones. Just remember the good ones

5 wood 250 ? Come on now

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Was playing behind 4 Coots on the golf course today

Aug 19, 2018, 10:08 PM

Yup, according to my range finder on what was left to green, gotta remember that includes roll. For some reason I just hit that club really cleanly and with a bit higher swing speed due to being somewhat confident in it going where I want it to end up. Driver and 3 wood are out the bag right now, in truth I never hit my 3 wood but 15-20 yards further anyway. Miss the driver but all I do with it is learn to play creative shots out the woods right now.

Re: Was playing behind 4 Coots on the golf course today

I play a lot of golf, like 80 rounds a year and play to a 9.7 handicap. 250 with a 5 wood is certainly impressive. I personally do not carry a 5 wood in my bag. I hit the 3 wood 230 so if I did have a five wood it likely be around 210. I carry a 3 iron instead for that distance. I played with a young professional baseball player from the Class A Clearwater team who was a 7'0" tall lefty and he could easily hit his 5 wood 250 plus; you just didn't know what fairway it would end up.

Re: Was playing behind 4 Coots on the golf course today

Aug 19, 2018, 10:29 PM

I play usually 3x a week, more before I tore the ACL. My step dad told me the reason I hit it so far is being left handed and playing right handed. Never looked it up but his thoughts were since my left is dominant/stronger and it is where the power side is swinging right handed it lets me carry the ball farther. Like I said never looked it up but took him at his word, he was a heck of a golfer. Heck he is still dang good for 84.

250 yards with a 5-wood? Dang boy!!!! That's impressive. I fancy myself a big hitter, but I've never gotten that kind of distance with a 5 wood....220 at most, on a good day.
