However, if they win out they should be the #1 team in the nation.

They got away with that when Miami, USC and OSU were being probed by the NCAA and couldn't build quality depth due to the sanctions. They made plenty of good bowl games they didn't deserve.

They can't help if everyone votes them up the top 25 no matter what. They didn't force the ACC into their current deal. Its currently not in their self interest to join a football conference as long as they are able to schedule the way they do and be relevant come playoff time. But yea - I agree with the point of your post

I don't hate ND and I wish they'd join the conference full time. I do dislike some of the inordinate respect they get in the polls but I have to respect that they win with very tough academic standards.

I dislike Notre Dame as much as anyone. However for our tigers we need them to beat USC and lose to NC State. This helps us control our own destiny.
