? on this holy Clemson graduation day

as I watch the invasion of wandering people wearing black robes, ties, dresses, etc. throughout town. Is this ritual more for the graduate or his/her parents?
My Clemson diploma arrived in my mailbox. I had absolutely no urge to go through that mess (thanks Mom and Dad for not pressing the issue).
Some of you have been both Graduate and Parent of graduate......so why we do this?

I didn't go to mine, my sisters went to theirs. They needed those pics for the insta though whereas I did not. It also provides proof that you actually graduated. People will lie about that ####, makes it easy to confirm.
It is a great day, a couple of more afternoons and town will be empty enough to enjoy again. Good riddance MFers, maybe I'll go enjoy a beer at TTT's this weekend.

Gamecock grad.
I've told this story before, but Dad graduated from High School and was dead broke, so he went to the local bank to get a loan for college. The bank president wouldn't loan him money for Clemson so he ended up at PC. After one year at PC he ran out of money and had to go to USC-L or something like that. After a year there he saved up enough to go to USC in Columbia and get his actual degree from there.

school - I said - MAIL IT.
Wish I woulda walked.
Where I REALLY screwed up was not taking some classes in the Fall to get one more football season in . . . .
THAT is my bigger regert.
Love my diploma - other than my class ring & my Dad's Class of '51 class ring, it is my favorite material possession.
It is proudly hanging in the game room bathroom at the house.
