Ohio St. has really improved their recruiting,

Feb 1, 2021, 12:53 AM

Dabo has always taken his players to the next level and never mattered what the star level was or is!! Georgia has recruited some of the best, Bama always gets their players, but seems like OSU is getting the players we want. For 2022, OSU has like 11 commits from top 35 already. I would never question the recruiting of Dabo, but we seem to be missing the to 50players fron 21 and 22. Yes, we will get a few of our top players.

OSU has #1 QB and many more #1 players in 22'. I just think we need to watch them and curious about Meyers at Jags.

Bama, OSU, & Geo are notch above everyone where 85 man roster talent is concerned-

Our recruiting has stayed at top level for yrs...

Feb 1, 2021, 4:04 AM

But if you watch the players recruited by Oh-cry-O, you will see they have won a lot of our recruiting battles recently. Not to say that Dabo won't get his players, but in the past it always seemed like we got who were our major targets when it came to Bama and DAWGs. But last 2-3yrs, OSU is crushing the football recruiting and they have not slid backwards at all.

Once again, to have the #1 QB for 2022, they have 3 of top 10 WR if I remember correctly, or maybe its 2021. Buy they have several #1 players from '21 and '22 committed already.

Just wondering if anyone else had noticed the quality of players they have recruited in last 3-4yrs. Look at how much it improved at start of Urban, but look at the giant leap since Urban left as HC at OSU.

Only way to say it is, Urban is a great recruiter, how has HC Day jumped multiple levels in recruiting since Urban retired! Going back to original post---- I would have to wonder how Day and his staff can recruit at a whole giant level above Urban????

Did UM leave because he knew he needed to relieve his name from Day and the "domestic violence coach" that I can't recall name?

OSU recruiting is too good of you look at it as a whole!! Something fishy has grown in the fish pond and I think Urban wants to leave his connection. 35% of commits from 2022 in top 34 Rival players a yr away from '22 making commits already, and a ton of crazy high commitments since 2019, it seem like there is a McDonald's bag floating around the BuckNut tree's, and they are hard to find! Yes!! I am saying I thing there is dirty water since Urban left!

ICA, I've noticed the same thing. Yeah, they were recruiting on a high level... Star wise comparable to us, but since (we've won 2 nattys) and their recruiting has skyrocketed. While ours have remained relatively the same. Sure, we've expanded our landscape, but as you and other x and o guys have pointed out, we've missed on several positions groups. Most notably the oline and dbs.

We may be known as wru but then you have to say osu is dbu. They seem to develop in that area even better than Bama. Know it's not popular, but hand it to them, used the transfer to get a running back, a QB, and several nice olineman...

I honestly think Dabo and staff after eval have made the change with Pearman. We missed in 17-19 on a couple position groups as imo, every team not named Bama does and have used the portal in select situations for that reason.

Plus, ICA. Said teams have a much higher budget. As another poster pointed out in the last couple weeks, iptay membership is much much lower than a lot of schools.

OSU spends a ton on basketball too.

As of 2021 early signing day Clemson and OHST had almost identical star ratios over the last 4 years. OHST had taken 2 more players over that span. Meanwhile Bama and UGA recruited 10+ and each had a higher star ratio.

Yes OHST had a great 2021 class, but Clemson has continued to improve over Dabos tenure. If you look at 4 year averages we have better class average and star ratio each season. Compared to the class that Dabo won his first championship with we are much more talented overall in 2020. It just takes the right leadership in key areas to make the difference.

Sure, OHST has won a few recruiting battles and so have we. That doesn't change Dabo's strategy of recruiting high quality players for his system. Not just 5* talents that may not pan out. He has built a program at Clemson not a team and if you keep putting yourself in the playoffs you will win your share.

You can’t go by star ratings alone when you’re comparing elite recruiting teams like Bama, ohio St, Clemson, Georgia, etc. A 4 star player can be ranked anywhere from the number 30 player in the country to the number 350 player in the country. What he’s saying is Ohio St is getting the higher rated players numerically, which is a better indicator of how strong your class is.

That is arguing that of the subjective data we are using that using a smaller subset with less margin for error is more accurate. You are correct that for top teams a players ability to have an early impact is critical for a championship run. However, the key thing you are building at this level of recruiting is depth to sustain losses at certain positions. If you get new playmakers and they do not sustain injury you have a good shot at a championship.

Rarely will we land 5-6 #1 players at their position because we don't always offer the #1 player at every position. Dabo offers #3 because they are better fit for his culture than #1 and of the 70 players he offered only 9 were #1. Clemson landed 3, Bama landed 2, OHST 1, Miami 1, OU 1, USC 1.

Of the 160 OHST offered 15 were rated #1. Clemson landed 3, OHST 3, Bama 4, OU, USC, Miami, TX, Neb 1.

We had some critical injuries this season and rebuilding in some key areas. Freshman still made an impact and I think we are stronger next season because of it.

2020 Blue Chip Ratios-Bama 83%, Geo 82%, OSU 80%(transfers are not counted), Clemson 63%-we should be close to 70% in 2021, fwiw 52% in 2016>lowest bcr to win CFP, OSU's has increased(a %pt or 2 per yr) since U M's departure

Oh give me a break. It’s crazy how people on this board do exactly the same things they complain about coots doing.

To say Ohio St is cheating based on zero evidence is cootish on so many levels. Ohio St is one of the winningest most well known programs (although also one of the most annoying and self righteous programs in history) in all of college football. Of coarse they have a chance to recruit at an elite level if they get it rolling. Are we cheating because we have been recruiting at an elite level for the first time in our history? Of coarse not.

I follow O-Cry-O closely along with Bama since they are the rivals. 31-0 improved its recruiting under Day because Day is a more likeable and genuine person than Urban. Urban left the framework in place and Day has taken the recruiting to another level because recruits just like him better than Urban, who turned off a lot of recruits with his "all business" persona. Plus, Day is seen as some sort of qb guru so they are on a tear with qb recruiting with McCord in '21 and Ewers in '22.

I hate when anyone accuses the other team of cheating but I do have a question. Why do 5 stars have no problem sitting the bench at Bama but if they are not starting for other teams they want out. Osu have two and three star qb's is fine but I feel pretty good they will have one or two transfer but as a whole Bama players stay with the team.

Sounds like they may also be using McDonald's bags but the NCAA won't dare watch them. The NCAA would also never look at Bama's techniques.

No offense, but check out your average teenagers Facebook or Twitter. Day's words are not exactly unknown to them. Btw, little secret, I bet deep down most of our boys have said the F bomb as well. I say this all in jest, but the fact is it's a different world than many of us grew up in.

off the chart lately. As someone pointed out above, you can't just tally up 5-stars and 4-stars. For ex, a "4-star rating" can vary greatly... at the fringes, a low 4-star is just barely above 3, and a high 4-star is just a shade lower than a 5. You dig a little deeper into the position rankings, and the Bucknuts are cleaning up.

This probably shows it as well as anything, a 2020 composite total team breakdown of the recruiting rankings of all the 85 schollies you currently have on your team. GA, Bama & OSU are a notch above everybody when you look at the AVG column.

You add in their 2021 class, which is number 2, and who they already have committed for 2022... yeah, they will soon probably have the most talented team in the country, on paper. You can scoff if you want to, that's fine. And yes, you have to develop that talent, recruit to your culture and schemes, etc. I get it.

But it sure doesn't hurt to start with the most pure talent, and that's a fact.

Welcome to the era of Fair Pay to Play for name, image and likeness. It's only going to get worse between now and 2023 and if you think little ole Clemson can compete with paraphernalia, signature, etc. sells vs. Columbus, OH (heck Dallas Ft. Worth, Tuscaloosa, Ann Arbor, etc.)then you're sadly mistaken. We told you this day was coming....

Let's wait and see how the final rules play out over the next 3-5 years. The NCAA member schools will not allow this to get out of control.
