you're right.
Son's quitting the game. It just can't have been fun this season in the football operations complex Doing your job and carrying the weight of your underperforming counterpart.......
If there were a time I'd see him saying screw it and jumping, it would be after a season like this one.

First of all: COOT!!!

2nd of all, imagine this scenario. BV leave for Chokelahoma. TE leave for Virgin Tech. Dabo promotes Streeter to OC and Mike Reed to DC. He hires DeAndre McDaniels coach Safeties and puts Mickey Conn in charge of DB's in general. He hires Tajh Boyd as QB coach.
What then?

None of that is likely. We would perform an exhaustive

global coaching search, ultimately hiring Ben Boulware to be our DC and Will Swinney to be our co-OC with Streeter.
A guy that Dabo played tee-ball with would step in as QB coach.

There's no 1:1 replacing of either of them, but this is Dabo's program. He built it, and he hired BV, and kept him hungry and happy for a decade.

Now, Brent actually going back to Norman after Stoops f'd him over which led him to Clemson....that I'm not sure of. But I'm sure that $4-5MM annual raise would be nice for him.

The only reason I won't believe it until I see it is Venables himself. He LOVES coaching, and he doesn't have an off-switch. He is intense in practice, and film study, and on the sideline.
What he doesn't particularly like, is all the other stuff that head coaches are expected to do, most of which isn't related to actual "coaching". It's hard to believe that money is a motivator for him, and I can't believe he'd see some huge difference in the $2.5M he makes in SC vs., whatever, $5M at OU. Not to mention, OU (and interrim coach Stoops) demoted him 10 years ago. That's why he left. Brent doesn't forget.
Anyway, wouldn't TOTALLY surprise me if it happened, but I'd lose money on it if you forced me to bet right this second.

Agree. I would guess no, but you never know. But if

he goes, we need to remember that no team in the playoffs this year has BV as DC. There are players and coaches to be had, and Dabo finds them. We need the BV finder more than the BV. If BV gets what all that means, and I think he does, he stays. But if not, we'll be fine.

then went back later to the same school, even as a head coach. I'm sure it's happened, but not often-especially under the same overall leadership.
And I know I'd sure rather get the head coach money and not have the headaches associated with being a head coach. And at this point, I'd guess Venables has as much input as he wants into whatever he wants to be involved with.

Why I think NOT.

I'd bet heavily that OK hires somebody with head coach experience and not a coordinator. One thing for sure, they better hit a home run with a shake-up on the heels of moving to the SEC and they know it. Get behind now and the hole is deep. They'll also want someone that can recruit west to east because OK isn't going to pillage FLA or GA.

Not happening. I hope.
Tyler still has what 3 years of eligibility? Kid has grown up at CU. I think BV is grounded, paid, and wise. Put more directly, he don't need more shat to worry about for more money while not finishing out the experience with his family. It wouldn't be a money grab either per se as he's been paid very handsomely over the years.
I think it's possible he goes one day, only for the challenge of it. He doesn't have to take that challenge now, and certainly I could see him waiting for Tyler to be all finished up at CU before doing so.
All of this said, Dabo should reroute an extra milly RIGHT FUGGING NOW from his contract to Brent's.
