I continue to acknowledge and prefer Dabo's approach to roster building.

In a world of madness, he is keeping Clemson as close *as possible* to the old way of recruit and build.
I have been critical of the coaching the last few years but I have simultaneously consistently defended this aspect of our program. I love our benevolent obstinance in the face of the tampering madness.
Now that it appears we may be making another key coaching change (I never fully bought in to Wes being the man for the job) and that we have done an incredible job of building a great roster despite our extremely different behavior (and reputation) I think we may be poised for our best year since 2020 next year.
I was optimistic before 2023 too and the Duke game shattered my confidence ever since. But Cade has made a radical turnaround, Matt Luke has already turned our O-line into a championship worthy unit, our WR room is lightyears different than it was just a season ago, and our Broyles OC may finally have his offense settled in in year 3. What we did against Texas says more to me than what we did against Kentucky in the 4th quarter last year. (I predicted 3 loss regular season this year)
I expect our defense to struggle again next year because it takes time to implement a tough defense under a new DC. Especially if the rumors are true about multiple staff (especially if Reed is gone) leaving.
Our offense should be championship caliber next year. Hopefully our defense is good enough to hold serve often enough to win.
If we get killed by LSU or look clueless on offense I will hopefully never have an opinion again. But I am very happy Dabo has approached roster building (retention) the way he has and it adds a whole nother layer to whay I want to see Clemson rise back to the top 5 next year. Optimistic rant over.

We still need a new RB coach, though. WR coach is benefiting from exceptional talent.

Attracting the best talent is the number one Job of a position coach. You think Jeff Scott was some elite WR developer? I doubt it. I think he was an elite recruiter. Now a days we are recruiting with one hand tied behind our backs because we don’t do NIL like others do. So if Tyler G. can find a way to got get a couple of elite WR every other year then that’s good enough for me

Just brought in the 3rd best RB in the nation and developed a 1000 yard rusher???
Perhaps those are reasons.

is, above all else, an academic institution, and that our players must be legitimate students who attend classes, do the work and make acceptable grades, THEN I will always prefer the approach that allows us to compete at the highest level. I have no problem with NIL money or using the portal to fill needs that aren't being adequately met through the traitional recruit/build model. Having said that, to the degree it is possible, I much prefer the recruit/build method.

I care about one thing and thing only, Winning at the highest level. Getting back to NC contenders. If his way worked then great but based off the past 4 years it didn’t work. Being unique doesn’t equal elite. So far in the NIL/Portal era his way was a failure. Simple as that. He’s had to admit to himself that avoiding the portal is no longer an option with the addition of two guys so far and probably more for next season. He’s had to fire two coordinator hires and a position coach since the change from the NC staff. Proving that hiring from within didn’t work.
I’m hoping with the new hires and change of heart for the portal that we will join the modern era of football. The biggest issue we face is keeping up in the NIL space to attract the top talent again.

Dabo's policy of hiring inexperienced coaches is why we dropped off.

Our roster has been better than our coaching.

This new path is unsustainable. Its too whacky. It was wise to be cautious.***
