IPTAY No Seat Plan

Jul 22, 2014, 11:32 AM

I'm probably gonna get blasted on here for not being ALL IN, but I'm gonna vent regardless. I'm a diehard Clemson fan, grew up in Clemson, Graduated in '06, moved back to Clemson last year after a stint of work travel from '07-'11. After I got out of college and started making a little money, I decided it was time to start supporting the Tigers financially so I donated to IPTAY and bought season tickets. Of course, starting out with just a few points (this was prior to the "New" Seat Plan) I knew I would get Top Deck seats, and I did get put in the far corner of the South TD. So the next year, with the hopes of getting better seats I went into the IPTAY office and asked the question "How much money would it take to sit in the lower deck?" and of course the answer was "We can't tell you." The next week I received the "New Seating Plan" that was implemented in '08-'09 that specifically stated donation levels and seating assignments, the question I'd just asked the ITPAY Representative. This kind of left a sour taste in my mouth in doing business with IPTAY, and since I was travelling over the next few years and wasn't able to make the games anyhow, I decided not to donate or purchase tickets.

Fast forward a couple of years, I got married and moved back to Clemson, so this year I decided it was time to try and rekindle my relationship with IPTAY, so I donated at a little higher level and using the Seat Distribution Plan, I bought 4 season tickets that would put me in the Red sections on the plan. I got an email yesterday that my seats were in Section K in the Purple Section, again... far corner of the TD. I understand that I'm not gonna get 50 yrd line seats, however, at least IPTAY could adhere to their own Seat Distribution Plan, and place me at my giving level.

I don't expect much except criticism from Tnetters for not signing over my house and all my earthly possessions to IPTAY, but are there any reasonable people out there who conduct business honestly these days that might be in the same plight?

not flaming, but I think what you may be missing here is the AVAILABILITY of seats in a priority area. just because you are giving at a certain level doesn't mean seats are open in that area. A very high % of season tix are renewed. and if seats DO become available, are there other IPTAY members with more points requesting the same seats you are? You also have to consider what parameters you are putting on tix requests. if you're asking for , say, 6 tix together, that is obviously a much more difficult request to fill than 2 together. just my thoughts....

I've been in IPTAY for 45 years. I can't tell you the number of years my seats were in the nose bleed section or in the corner of an endzone. So now I'm between the 40s in the lower deck. Should I give up my seats and my 200+ points I've earned so a new donor can sit in the lower deck? I think not. You have to stay in IPTAY and pay the price. You earn what you get. Your seats should not even sniff the lower deck!!!

I never intended to bump another donor, and you guys make some very good points (especially tigrtom), but that is not the way IPTAY advertises their seat plan in the letters they send out. My worry is that I give for the next 20-30 years and some new "plan" comes out that busts me out like it did others in 2008.

I don't really expect to sit in the lower deck, but I was hoping for a little closer to the middle.

I guess this is what everyone goes through, though when they're young and dumb.

This is my first year getting my own tickets. While disappointed where I'm at, I understand to a degree.

I guess the only thing I can hope for is not to be stuck next to the Christian coalition.

Re: IPTAY No Seat Plan

I think you misunderstand how the seat equity plan works.

The levels are the MINIMUM you must donate per seat, to KEEP those seats. You are not automatically placed in those seats because you donate at that level. There are just not very many seats available in the lower decks, and someone donating more than you gets first crack at them.

If I had to guess, you would need to donate at least $2500 per year, to have the chance of getting 2 seats in the lower deck.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IPTAY does adhere to its own seating plan, but...

Jul 22, 2014, 11:47 AM

you have to keep in mind that every IPTAY member who has been donating longer and at the same or a higher level than you has priority over you. If the number of available seats in a specific area get filled by those IPTAY members donating longer and at the same or a higher level than you, you will get bumped down to the next area. Paying at a sepcific level does not guarantee you seats in that designated area. It is based entirely on priority and availability.

I agree and bitterly disagree

I think for the average Joe they follow the seat plan.

I also fully believe the good ole boy system is still in effect and nepotism Rules.

I've tailgated with people that I know do not have the income to be in the lot they are in or can afford the seats they have. But they do have iptay connections.

For the record I've donated to iptay since 01 but do NOT purchase season tickets. I stopped buying seats about 5 years ago. I can get the same seats off stub hub fir much less. live Football is truly becoming entertainment for the wealthy.

so stay up to date with your contributions and one day you will have "earned" those good seats. That is why we do it that way so some deep pocketed entitled individual doesn't come along and push a long time donor out of the seats that they have been in (and contributing to) for AGES! In the meantime, do you want to buy some tickets in the lower deck?...lol....I just couldn't help myself.

I understand what you're saying because the same thing happened to me this year. I also understand that they can't assign new seats that aren't available. Until my time comes to improve my seats, I'll keep donating my hard earned money to a school I love (even though I didn't go there) and to a program that I am happy to be a part of!

Jul 22, 2014, 12:48 PM

It probably will not make you feel better but I have been an IPTAY donor for many, many more years than you have been alive. I have missed very few home games since I graduated in 1964. I have been an IPTAY rep for years and give at a fairly high rate. My seats should be around mid-field. I sit on the goal line and have for years! Keep giving. you will get there. I love the Clemson Tigers ...... and almost never think of the chickens!

purchasing a decent tailgating spot and both times they sent me to a guy and I got his vmail. I left a voicemail both times requesting a call back and never got it.

No offense but if you don't at least act like you want my business you aren't going to get it. I refuse to waste my time trying to track someone down to give money to.

Needless to say, I gave up trying and its a shame because I was willing to up my donation substantially.

TDK

If you'd kept giving (even if you didn't buy tickets)

Jul 22, 2014, 2:10 PM

you would've probably had a lot more priority points.

Points are determined by amount donated, cumulative giving, and consecutive years of giving. Seats are then determined in order of priority points (assuming that person has given the requisite amount that year for the seats).

So basically, there were a lot of people in front of you who give more and/or have been giving for longer.

Well...it

Jul 22, 2014, 5:47 PM

Took me 5 yrs to get to lower deck, and even then I'm in the end zone. The system is flawed, because they are leaving money on the table. I give several times the minimum for the tickets I get and there is really no reason for me to give more . Since they are unwilling to unseat fans giving the minimum, it likely won't change.

If they could tell me I would get tickets between the 20s I would send the $5k today and I don't think I am alone.

It is frustrating on many levels.

Jul 22, 2014, 5:58 PM

Wow! 5 years to get to the lower deck. Boy were you punished. And now want to give $5K to bump people giving less. Yea that makes sense. Those cheap rascals that have been giving and attending for dozens of years. Through the Ken Hatfield days. Through the Tommy West days. Through those great Bowden years. Through the heat and the cold and the rain. Who do they think they are hanging on to those seats when they could be sold to the highest bidder now that we are winning and there is demand for tickets. Those long drives home after beat downs by the likes of GA etc in the 70s don't count! Yep you need some cheese with your wine.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, let's say that in 5 more years you get your wish,

Jul 23, 2014, 12:59 PM [ in reply to Well...it ]

seats between the 20's, and are paying $5K to IPTAY for the ability to have these seats. Then I come in and pony up $6K and want your seats...what should IPTAY do? Sell to the highest bidder? Should they just have a seat auction every year?

Suggestion: get your seats and sell them. Keep requesting upgraded seats (in person at the IPTAY office). In the meantime, buy some between the 20's from someone who isn't using theirs. Problem solved for now and one day you'll have your own upgraded seats. You're welcome.

FWIW, I've sat in sec K (endzone) for the last 15 years because my wife likes to be beside the band...as long as I'm in the stadium it doesn't matter where I sit.

Jul 22, 2014, 6:05 PM

turn sell them to fans of visiting teams. I sit in the South Stands lower deck, great seats, and there are increasingly more and more fans in the lower deck who are fans of visiting teams. The past two games vs SCU in Death Valley I have been surrounded by shamecock fans. There is no excuse to have the lower deck of the South Stands to keep on having more and more fans of visiting teams sitting there. Clemson has become way too much about money, while turning their backs on longtime loyal fans.

This situation 3 times. I've received lower bowl , good seats from people who have corporate memberships. I know 2 of those businesses were run by nc state grads. The 3rd was a much larger corporation so I don't know what affiliation they had . The guy who got me the tickets was a nfl fan and only went to see football. Didn't care who was playing or who won.
