Thanksgiving week road trip coming up. Quick poll

Nov 22, 2021, 11:56 AM

I hate left lane hogs as much as anything on the planet, but in recent years I have accepted that when there’s 40 cars in both lanes going almost identical speeds, you just grit your teeth and wait it out.

So, when the inevitable 1996 Lexus ES300 or 2006 Dodge Charger comes up in your mirror view clearly looking to cut someone off to gain a whopping 1 or 2 place jump in line, do you

1) surrender your manhood and give them room to merge

Or

2) get so close to the car in front of you that you could calibrate scientific instruments to the space between your bumpers, letting said line jumper know that they need to find another victim, heroically maintaining order in the universe in the process?

I feel for your poor bastages that have to travel on the holidays though, no idea how y'all do it year after year.

Yeah i'm not going anywhere.

But I am still chipping away for somewhere warm over the Christmas holidays.

At some point..this could happen.

I agree.

One day when my wife divorces me i may have to try it out. But it'll probably be a chitty sailboat because well, I'll be divorced, and I think that's what guys who like boats end up doing when they get divorced.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Depends

Nov 22, 2021, 12:14 PM

If I'm driving...

Try to get closer to teach a lesson but not so close that it endangers those around me. If too dangerous, surrender and let them in.

If she's driving...

Get close enough to that bumper that it might be considered sexual assault in some states. Yell, "I'm not!" or some weird pseudo logic as to why it's okay when your husband points out that you're too close.

If it's an 18 wheeler...

#### you, eat a ####, we are united as one to keep your ### in the right lane. Stay in your ####### lane. Stay. The. ####. There.

Add a couple extra lanes everywhere to segregate 18 wheelers from autos when they originally built the Eisenhower Interstate system? It would be glorious.

If I could go back in time and change history, I’d do just that and then snuff out the main developers of the Internet as we know it just for good measure.

Was on I-40 in TN all day long Saturday

Nov 22, 2021, 12:19 PM

It was amazing how much traffic flowed in the stretches where they were required by law to stay in the right lane.

If two 18 wheelers are ever driving side by side for more than two miles, Highway Patrol should be allowed to revoke both CDLs on the spot.

I have often felt this. We need a "super-interstate" for nothing but long haul truckers. Will help them, help us, and all the world will be better. Coming through ATL a few months ago and while waiting in a jam I counted a 1-2 ratio of 18 wheelers to non-18 wheelers. That's GD crazy. So is this...

We had an employee who moved from Houston

Always drive passively.

Nov 22, 2021, 12:20 PM

Always let people in, always give people space. 100% of the time. All it costs me is a few seconds, maybe. The alternative could cost a lot more.

Cole @ Beach Cole w/ Clemson Hat

Option 1, but I hate myself for it.

Nov 22, 2021, 1:20 PM

Earlier this year some ####### cut me off twice in the space of about 2 miles. He is swerving between lanes, far right lane to far left, no blinker, etc.

The second time he did it I honked at him. Nothing too over the top, just to let him know he had cut me off again. At the next stop light, this guy gets out of his car and starts screaming at me, walking toward my car. I just stared at him until he turned around and got back in his car. I've never seen anything like it.

Between that and the increase in road rage shootings, I just let people merge. Its not worth it.

that really makes them mad.

Trying to mature and do more option 1....

Nov 22, 2021, 1:25 PM

but I'm still option 2 most of the time.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have moved to option 2 most of the time.

Nov 22, 2021, 1:34 PM

better yet, I have decided to stay in the right lane as much as I can - about 5 mph over limit. It really cuts down on the stress.

wait, I have to fly to Chicago tomorrow. Shoot. Me. Now.

I will more than likely come back with some kind of felony due to families getting in my way at the airport.

to answer your question and do so specifically

Nov 22, 2021, 1:38 PM

1 is the answer if on 696/94/96 in Detroit. Not worth being shot at.

2 is the answer everywhere else in the Nation.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Simple answer is to take back roads

Nov 22, 2021, 1:43 PM

to the local airport, then get your pilot to get you as close as possible to your destination. Then uber from there.

Re: Thanksgiving week road trip coming up. Quick poll

Nov 22, 2021, 2:28 PM

I am for space in front and the rear. There's generally going to be room between me and the car in front to slide in if it's a steady flow. I also tend to push speed limits, especially on interstates, so more than happy to have a rabbit scurrying out ahead.
