I am seeing more black concealed carriers and gun clubs than ever- thanks 2nd amendment.

I was in the Baber shop the other day and almost every one of my “brothas” in there had a concealed carry permit and I see the request and gun purchases rising. I have noticed on Facebook and among my community more and more African American gun and rifle clubs, training and ranges. There is talk of not just more black suburban but, urban and inner city NRA chapters- that would be good for educated and invested pistol and rifle ownership and use. It’s good to be an American to be free to defend ourselves against any tyranny threatening to our freedoms- just like the founding fathers did in establishing this country. I do want better gun laws but at the same time I appreciate the repeat in history of the 60’s with the black panther movement in using the right to bear arms to bring justice and stability to their own communities, their own bodies and their own property. Now if we could get the gun laws shaped in a way to keep people who shouldn’t have them not to have them.

However, I think police officers should be paid twice as much and you'll have more good people to choose from. Double the pay, and get rid of the egomaniac / bullies / power tripping jerks.
Put more money in police departments, get rid of the bad apples. I am liberal and that's my idea.

No, I believe what he meant is to do the work necessary to understand why they become criminals in the first place and then take actions to fix the problem and not just treat it. If that is what he meant I fully agree with him.

What I meant was is if you choose tobe a criminal you should be dealt with as such. Break into a house and the owner should have the right to blast your ### period. I have no sympathy for anyone who chooses to steal,kill or assault anyone else. Don't give me this crap about the ones stealing to feed their family either. There is more than adequate help available to anyone that needs it. Being a criminal is not an excuse. People like you are the problem . Real Democrats are not wanting to "do away with the police" or "defund" which was a poor choice of words to begin with. Take parts of funding and support up to date training that is badly needed to support law enforcement. So, when you say everyone, everywhere better get a gun, does that include convicted felons, individuals with mental health issues, unlicensed? If you take off your Trump colored glasses and quit watching Fox Propaganda News, you may have a clearer picture of the truth.

I walked in to a sports store on rivers ave with $200.. ...and walked out with a shotgun. I don't recall being asked for the color of my skin. I think they just asked for my DL to prove I was over 18.

Also, I hear everywhere that the NRA is racist...seems that the NAAGA would be a better organization? Maybe the NRA really isn’t racist?

I grew up in the suburbs of Charleston,SC, pastored in the inner city of Baltimore, lived in a fragile neighborhood in Charlotte(now can’t afford to live there) and now back to the suburbs. All of these places have their issues and I see more community policing and justice based organized systems a potential help but also a danger!!! This may be good for what is often a two way distrust and fear between authorities from outside the community and those within. Thoughts?

I don’t like the community policing with guns. Then you get those two redneck idiots in Georgia that shot the jogger because they thought they were doing the right thing. But they didn’t have all the information and had no right to make that judgment call. They harassed which escalated the situation and ended tragically. I think this just happens more and more if you do what you’re suggesting.

early 80's. Even then, if you include North Charleston as well, there were definitely some neighborhoods that you wanted to avoid if at all possible, and do NOT stop or drive through with your doors unlocked if you wandered into them. I am certainly not against gun ownership, but if everybody starts carrying all the time, there are going to be more shootings, just from people getting a Clint Eastwood complex. Bad times ahead, I am afraid.

You expect people to make broad rational decisions in group behavior. You know that does not work. See "The Bachelor" being a ratings success as evidence if bad meta-decision making.
You have folks explicitly running for office claiming that government does not work... and they get elected (often to prove it). No offense, but I would not select an atheist to be my pastor. More ironic, I am a libertarian (government should be very small and very effective) but I don't get those that say government "doesn't work". And yes, there is a necessary line between in policy development for "government should" and government's effectiveness.
Also note, gun ownership parallels other policy items like general trust in "the others" and elected officials. Low trust = uptick in gun ownership

Like to many Abortion and gay marriage/agenda are MORE important than as THEY told me, Trump’s personal morality(that’s what I heard). My father is a black veteran, boomer, Christian, small business owner. He is getting pounded with taxes because he makes “too much.” And his health costs are ridiculous under the affordable care act.... but he would rather suffer and sacrifice there for other issues he sees as MORE important. Many blacks who own businesses and want the right to carry arms vote left knowing it could hurt In other ways. Itls just like the white evangelicals in my denomination who are 2 or 3 issue sometimes. Remember Mormonism was removed from the Billy Graham list of cult religions by Franklin when Romney was running? Why? Romney supported the 2 or 3 issues. We all do it!!! We are not simple beings or people as Americans with all of our freedoms and rights. We will risk and sacrifice some freedoms and truths for what we value as most important to us.

Is that they don’t enforce the ones they already have very well, so why add more? If you make it too difficult for law abiding citizens to get then the only ones left are the criminals. You know the ones with filed off serial numbers etc. so criminals will have and the good people wont

Having lived in predominantly white suburbs, black suburbs in ATL, black inner city in Baltimore and Charlotte and now a mixed suburb in Huntersville- and the founding pastor of a multiethnic, multipolitical party affiliated church, I can tell you that NO one wants or likes crime PERIOD- regardless of the ethnicity of a person, unless they are the criminal of course. No one wants criminals running rampant in their neighborhoods. But we all believe that as much as possible even criminals should get a fair hearing and trial and should arrive alive- black or any other.
This post was not about guns against white people or police- some of my best friends are white and my roommate and best friend at Clemson was white.
But very few I know would let anyone- government, black, white, Hispanic, Asian threaten their lives, violate or oppress their rights. Everyone has a right to defend themselves, their communities and those they love against anyone who would come to kill, unjustly mistreat, take or abuse them. Not everyone believes they should exercise that right with guns- others do.

Law abiding citizens are not the problem. It's the criminals who obtain guns illegally. If you want to see less crime involving guns make it open season on criminals. Break into a house and get blasted. Try to attack someone and you will get what you deserve. This is how you deal with gun problems. You let the law abiding citizens take out the trash without worry of being prosecuted. Couple of thugs get blasted and it will make the rest think twice before they try it.

In case anyone is slow to catch on, the original purpose of this post was to get a whit guy to say it’s not a good thing black are buying guns. It’s the reason he post most his crap.
And HBOWN, if your a pastor, then it gives credence to the fact that most young blacks have turned away from the church. Spend 30 minutes in downtown anywhere to see for yourself. Perhaps it’s weak leaders in the church as to why that is.
It’s not rocket science, you can’t vote for a party that murders unborn children and say you believe in God. It’s the worst crime on our earth today. So either quit making excuses or vote for those who oppose it. Simple!

As a pastor (on sabbatical right now after almost 25 years of ministry)- I have found comfort in scriptures like psalm 139 for the sanctity of life in the womb. The sanctity and divine will and purpose in the womb is justification for the sanctity and dignity of human life-period. To make abortion the worse sin is to split God given sanctity in a way it was not intended. Abortion is horrible and the unborn does not get her/his day or voice heard- I AM pro life because of what the Bible says. But we must also recognize that oppression and mistreatment of the poor and marginalized is mentioned more in the psalms as a problem for society than abortion.
As far as black folks leaving the church- I am saddened. In the evangelical circles I move in though- it has been the church’s lack of focus on social justice and Christian nationalism that has made them question the faith more than pro-life, etc. thanks for your words for the unborn tho
