You ever apply for a job that you know you won't get?

Jan 20, 2022, 2:54 PM

Like I am no where near qualified for this job.

Probably won't be qualified for this job for another 5-6 years.

But you got to shoot your shot sometimes.

What are they going to tell me? You're not qualified for this job?

Yeah I know.

I've been applying for jobs, getting interviews

Jan 20, 2022, 2:59 PM

but don't have the ambition to do 4 interviews in a day.
I guess i don't want to leave that badly yet.

I don't have the ambition to fill out the application.

Jan 20, 2022, 3:02 PM

If they'll just take my resume, I'm down with that.

I'm kinda past putting down where I went to high school, and reporting that expired fire extinguisher crime I have on my SLED background check from 4/2000.

I might do it to get an interview, and definitely would to get an offer..but just out of the blue? FTS.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yep, never do cover letter either

Jan 20, 2022, 3:06 PM

The one's the make you fill in every job start and end dates, addresses, manually.
I immediately cancel out of those.

Yeah all thats pointless.

Jan 20, 2022, 3:18 PM

Noone needs all that to talk to me on the phone.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just a haunch, but I don't think they'll have to tell you

Jan 20, 2022, 3:00 PM

that your not qualified.

Something tells me you will tell them that within the first 5 minutes of the phone interview.

I am 98% certain my career path is going to take

Jan 20, 2022, 3:10 PM

a complete 180 in about 6 months. So I am having a really hard time not concentrating on that change and all that is going to happen and still keep going at 110mph at my current job. I can do it because I love my job, but yeah, no idea why I am rambling.

The linkedin jobs that allow you to just apply with linkedin and resume are the people I want to go after.

Yep, got me the best job I ever had

Jan 20, 2022, 3:41 PM

About halfway through the interview, guy in charge of the committee said well you know, you’re not really qualified for this position but we have another opening that you would be perfect for and so we are going to shift to questions about that job.

Gave me 5 minutes to read the job description in the hallway while he talked to the committee about who was going to ask what. Went through their list, had the secretary take me on a tour and offered when I got back.

I've been overqualified for many of the jobs I wanted.

Jan 20, 2022, 11:24 PM

I even filled out an application in a construction company's front office rather than sending them my resume. They advertised for a foreman/superintendent job and called me that evening wanting me to come in before lunch the next day.

Of course they wanted an estimator but me being someone who hates an office I turned it down. I had several of those encounters. I even offered to estimate from project sites a couple times.

I should have applied for RH Tig job. I'm sure not qualified to run the world with furry and awesomeness.

Not really, but I haven't applied for a job since college. Too complacent and change-averse, I guess.

Re: You ever apply for a job that you know you won't get?

Jan 21, 2022, 7:09 AM

I probably wouldn’t know how to interview. I last applied for a job 30 years ago. I remember getting a lot of “however” letters. That’s when they send a letter that says “we like your qualifications, however,………”. Finally said screw it and went self employed. Never looked back. Now I’m thankful I didn’t get some of those jobs. It’s stressful going through that process.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've had one legitimate interview in 10 years

Jan 21, 2022, 8:24 AM

the rest were where I already had the job and had to go through the formality
