I'm a gun "moderate" I'd say...

I own guns, I enjoy shooting them.
But when I see idiots walking into restaurants with semi automatic rifles brazenly displayed, just because they can...I think they are doing far more to damage the 2nd amendment than just about anything.
They are in essence giving rise to a vast majority of moderate Americans who would begin to waiver on gun rights.

The NRA has even come out against this practice.

Really seems like more of a common sense issue to me.

I love my guns and the ability to carry where legal. But going into a restaurant with a loaded AR on your back is a little much.

But somehow it works for them and doesnt for us.
I own guns, I carry guns. You will have no idea I do so unless its needed.
But i also remember the days of my youth walking around all day with a .22 rifle or a 20ga shotgun. Our property, neighbors property, the local store. We would just unload, prop it up against the door and go in for a refreshment.
I even rode the bus to school a few times with my Stevens 20ga in a leather scabbard. I just had to put it in the principals office during class.

I own guns. I have a bolt action Winchester .300 and a Remington 1100 Mag that my dad gave me sitting across the room in a neighborhood where I know I'll probably never have to use it. I do not support any legislation that would prohibit anyone from owning guns or using them for sport and personal protection. But a line has to be drawn somewhere, and I absolutely "get" the other side of the argument here.
It's clear that folks who walk into a crowded restaurants with loaded high-powered rifles ( here's the video for those who haven't seen it) are just assholes looking for attention in all the wrong places.
We all know a certain minority of gun owners who act like this - and do dumb shit that doesn't help the cause. You know, like posting pictures on buddy book of them pointing guns at the camera and/or each other because "hey they're just guns, what are you scared of?" and other nonsense that runs contra to responsible gun ownership.
I think there's so many angles to open carry to be had that I won't even get into that whole topic. But I think Chile's (and Sonic?) had every right to refuse service to those dudes.

Before you say you want liberties taken...

away, and that IS what we are talking about, think about how the same reasoning could be used to take other liberties from you.
Don't get me wrong, we cannot be a completely liberated society. We must have some of our liberties taken from us such as the right to take someone elses property. You must not be liberated to do that in order to protect private property. The same can be said for life. If you can demonstrate that a thing being allowed causes death then you can justify restricting that thing in order to protect life. But, make sure the thing is the basic source. In the case of taking someone's property, the restriction is on the act and not on a thing. We have restrictions on killing others too but it continues. The question is what other liberty must be taken to resolve this?
In the case of some crazy person shooting up a post office or school, there is no reason to believe they would not use some means other than guns to accomplish the same thing. The vast majority of gun killings in the US are by gang members or those of a similar motivation. Taking the guns from them would certainly reduce killings but it is arguable that it would be short lived. This is a cultural problem that cannot be resolved by taking the weapons. The culture must be changed or elliminated.
Unfortunately, we have created this mess with massive urbanization, government housing and other racist endeavors sold as "helping" others. We must get rid of those huge lumps of recipients who have little to no real life opportunities save the ones offered by the savage culture causing all of the trouble.
It is a hard pill to swallow too. No politician could ever choose to put the pressures needed that the inevitable economic situation will provide. It will come. It will be necessary for those vast populations of recipients to migrate away from the ### just to survive. They will leave that culture and if they don't change, they will die.
Only the free market could have prevented the current situation which has been a distant memory for almost a century.
So, before you jump on the bandwagon of gun control, ask yourself if you would rather confine our guns to gun clubs and private hunting ranges or keep your guns so that when the day comes when desperate escapees from the projects come to your door, you are not defenseless.

I'd say to stop hoarding weapons, and man up and go into an inner city and do something to help a kid who is the recipient of generations of poverty and has nobody showing him the way out.
