Pointless statistics for CU men’s basketball

32%. In all the years of CU Basketball that’s the percentage of seasons since the 1980 tournament expansion we’ve made the dance. 29% of the time since the year 2000. (6 times) 27% of the time under Brownell.

Now here’s where it gets interesting. Clemson made the dance 4 years in a row from
2008 2009 2010 2011. The last three years under Purnell and the first under BB.

Take that for what it is. Some may argue the first year of Brownells success was due to the way Purnell handed over the program much like the argument with Montes first years after Jack Legget.

Take away that first year and Brownells percentage drops to %18 over 9 seasons.

After taking over a program that was built up and fresh off back to back to back (3 in a row!) tournament appearances Brownell took the Tigers to the dance in his first year. And then had a 6 year drought. To go from 4 straight appearances to a 6 year drought is a tremendous drop off. Then he had a miracle happen in 2018 and made the sweet 16 but missed again in 2019 and 2020* Then in a down year for the ACC managed to make it back again where he lost to a very below average low seed Rutgers.

This doesn’t seem like progress. Purnell gave us progress. Brownell has regressed the program. Numbers are there. Writing is on the wall. Clemson can have a competitive program Purnell was getting there before he was hired away.

It’s time for new leadership folks.

I agree but youre giving Brownell too much credit.

This was just his 3rd trip to the NCAA tourney. The 4 year streak, Purnell was responsible for 1st three and Brownell the 4th. Time for a change.
