Clemson put on a clinic against UT...an absolute clinic...

3

Jan 2, 2023, 8:31 AM

The topic of the clinic was: "How to Dominate an Opponent While Losing on the Scoreboard"....

Just a weird night where your redzone offense & FG kicking was horrible. Klubnik screwed up at the end of the first half. Missed FG's. Missed fake FG. Stuffed on 4th down.

But for about 3 quarters, your offense was going up and down the field, and your defense was mostly stuffing UT's offense. Just a strange game where the "better team won" wasn't necessarily the case.

Klubnik will be ready next year, and I think the old Clemson will be back. Just my opinion.

For Klubnik to have screwed up at the end of the first half,

required a coaching staff that burned through all the timeouts wayyyy too early, and a call to spike the freaking ball on first down with 31 seconds left as the clock had been stopped while the chains were reset. There was a lot of ineptitude to go around.

That was a real head-scratcher for me too.

The spike waa a horrible play call.

Maybe it was Cade improvising?

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Let's say that benefit of the doubt is correct....

Jan 2, 2023, 8:48 AM

for him to "improvise" in such a manner, meant he didn't have a play call ready to run.

Additionally, after the game Streeter said "I guess Cade didn't know we didn't have any timeouts" as if there's no one anywhere on the sidelines that should be tasked with repeating that to him multiple times before that series. It's just all bizarre. Not excusing Cade's poor decision, but it took multiple failures all around to get there.

I agree.

Jan 2, 2023, 9:05 AM

There were coaching failures there either way.

Like the dead horse we keep beating on here, we could have and should have better, more experienced coaches if we're to be a "developemental" program.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We actually are a developmental problem

2

Jan 2, 2023, 9:46 AM

the problem is, it's developmental for coaches at this point.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've never watched a game ever where I didn't see mistakes.

Jan 7, 2023, 10:31 PM [ in reply to I agree. ]

It happens. It's not hard to sit down after a game and offer all sorts of opinions where coaches messed up.

As for us, what specifically are you aluding to with a lack of development. And before you say WRs, don't forget we had a gigantic QB issue for 25 of the last 27 game. The receivers limmediately improved when we got someone who can grt them the ball. That's obviously improved and there's a ton more potential to be tapped. The entire offense will be completely different from what we've seen for 25 of 27 games.

Coaches sometimes make mistakes. They all do.

So what else are you trying to be so critical about?

Jan 8, 2023, 12:56 AM

The WRs got better when they played 2 pathetic secondaries that can’t cover anyone.

Interesting to have one of the more positive posts

Jan 2, 2023, 8:45 AM

coming from a rival fan. Maybe that's since Georgia Tech took Coach Heisman from us 100+ years ago. I hope Brent Key can get you guys going. Weird that the last 3 GT head coaches have all had some past affiliation with Western Carolina.

Yeah, I'm hoping that Key will unlock Tech's potential (pun intended). Hadn't thought about the WCU angle, but you're right.

Jan 2, 2023, 9:24 AM

no mystery in 2022-23 and neither are garbage stats that are partially a result of being down 2 tds for most of the game-

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Total yards, time of possession, and number of 1st downs…

Jan 2, 2023, 11:49 AM

are all garbage stats?

Jan 2, 2023, 11:52 AM

Perhaps not garbage but much less important that points scored. Even Dabo will admit that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nobody is saying score isn't the number one stat...

Jan 2, 2023, 12:28 PM

but it looks like he just said all the others are garbage. Pretty hard to not look at them, especially if you are calling for a coach to be fired, as some here are.

The team with the better coaching staff won the game

The team with the better coaching staff....

Jan 2, 2023, 12:31 PM

lost on both sides of the ball, statistically speaking. Of course, final score is what matters most, so Streeter has to go.

Tennessee had 3 long passes and not much else.

We drove up and down the field, and if you go back and look at what happened most of the issues in the red zone were related to execution.

Tennessee didn't outcoach us in any way, shape, or form.

when your down 14 for most of the game, yeah it alters play calling and scheme-

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We were in UT territory 7 or 8 times in the first half

1

Jan 2, 2023, 11:57 AM [ in reply to "Bend but don't Break" D concepts are... ]

Those aren’t garbage time stats.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So why did we have 100 more yards than UT was giving up?

1

Jan 7, 2023, 10:39 PM [ in reply to "Bend but don't Break" D concepts are... ]

Are you thinking they installed a new defense just for us?

Jan 2, 2023, 3:24 PM

Most folks around here think we need a complete new coaching staff and that Clemson is trending down. We won't win 8 games next year if you ask some of these people. Thanks for the outside view!

Thanks man. Always cool when opponent fans see things more clearly

than a large portion of our fanbase.

Hoping GT gets better..

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe if Cade had spent meaningful snaps with the 1's

Jan 8, 2023, 1:24 AM

during the season, rather than pre-season and the ACCCG+Bowl practice, his issues would have been non-existent. Let's face it the QB experiment over the last two years was ok for ACC play this year. I didn't think we were top four at the mid-point nor end of season. I'm afraid a semi would have been
U..G..L..Y.

But where there's hope there is optimism. I expect a strong offensive show early next year that will open eyes. I expect a defense that will be better. I hope our special teams will improve.
I hope our coaching will learn and improve.
