Roy Martin: Boston College - Clemson Postgame Analysis

Losing to a good Boston College team is not that tough of a pill to swallow. How the Tigers lost is what makes the defeat so painful. Full Story »

That article is far too apologetic in my opinion

You a don't have to have Rod Gardner to be able to throw the ball more than 10 yards. That is just simple excuse making.

Spence answers your question over on Ard's site....

please read. Especially the part where he says that 3 times CW dropped back to look long, were the 3 times he was sacked. He goes on to say that the layperson doesn't review film.

When you are in a position of leadership as Spence is....

Sep 28, 2005, 10:21 AM

You take responsibility for your mistakes.

I am sure that there were missed assignments on those plays, but might there also have been a failure on the coaches part to design proper blocking schemes to better protect Charlie on the deep ball. If they recognized that our line was getting whipped then they might should have rolled Charlie out or left a back in the backfield to help out on blocking.

I get real nervous when people start passing the buck.

Again, I'm not talking about "looking long"

Sep 28, 2005, 10:29 AM [ in reply to Spence answers your question over on Ard's site.... ]

I'm talking about passing the ball more than 10 yards, heck even more than 5 yards would be a nice change of pace.

It takes 2 seconds to hit a quick post in the middle of a cover 2 defense. Just pop the ball over the linebacker's head and between the safeties and have your tight end or split end catch it in stride. That's just one of many, many examples of ways to loosen up a defense that is geared against short gains.

So if BC is so #### good, how did we "sleepwalk" our way

That article is some big time home cookin'

Sep 28, 2005, 10:03 AM

Look, I am excited about our prospects this year and I feel we can go 9-2 if our coaches coach well and our players play well from here on out.

But...

That article tries to explain away all accountability from the coaches. I don't care if you have to put pads on the gatoraid girl and send her long. You have to try to stretch the defense or they gang up in the box and scheme for slip screens and intermeidate routes. If you have a couple 6-5 receivers on 5-10 backs, you have to take at least a few chances. Also, taking some of the blame off the coaches and putting it on the OLINE was not very cool.

Face the facts, although I like Spence and I think he can do well here. He called a way too conservative game this week and he should recognize and learn from it.

I agree 100%***
