CDC news is great, but here’s the problem
May 14, 2021, 7:44 AM

Unraveling the web of BS is going to take MONTHS. This is 100% a result of failed leadership and the problem with decentralization of policy for a nationwide issue. The insistence on offering guidance rather than policy regarding masks and social distancing from a federal level led to:
- Each state setting their own policy - Counties, cities within states setting their own, sometimes discrepant, policies - individual state agencies creating their own policies - individual companies and businesses creating their own policy
Here’s an example:
The state of Virginia, Albemarle County, the City if Charlottesville, and the Wegmans chain all have to independently change their policies, and all have to align, for me to it have to wear a ######### mask when I’m buying fruit loops. Untangling the morass will be a huge cluster and will perpetuate this nonsense far longer than it needs to be.
As an aside to the unvaccinated, whether because of your selfishness or if you’re antivaxx and retarded, you’re all welcome. You can thank the 50% of us that altered our genomes permanently so that you can go back to Clemson games this fall without a mask on.

There's not a lot in this world that I get offended by, but

that word is one of them. Call me a snowflake if you want to, I don't care. I grew up using that word in the same context as the good doctor (meaning someone who is foolish, or stupid, etc...), and it wasn't until my son was born with severe special needs, that I saw how hurtful that word was.
Because let's be honest, most people my age (44) grew up using that term when referring to the special needs kids at school, and then later, for something we thought was stupid/dumb etc.
If you've never lived with a child that EVERY SINGLE DAY was a physical, mental and emotional struggle for them, and then heard people use that word in a negative connotation, than you probably won't understand my position.
I don't TD people for saying it, but I do feel sorry for their ignorance, and tend to think less of them. When people say it around me in person, I always ask them not to, and explain why. If they continue to do it, I don't associate with them anymore, because it's clear they lack empathy.
Maybe, just maybe, people will consider this before casually tossing that term around.
Or, maybe they won't, because they don't care. And that's sad to me.
Rant over, TD Away, DGAF. I'm proud of my "retarded" son, and all the things he's accomplished in his 14 years.

I do agree here. Liked the rest of the post, but yeah, no need to use that term.
I feel the same way when someone takes the last half of it and attaches another prefix to it.

the rules, based on guidance from the federal level.
Different areas will likely have different circumstances. A blanket federal policy is not ideal.
The federal government's role should be to use their clout to champion the following of policies, and to provide any support needed.

Decentralizing is much better IMO...

because the COVID situation varies and has varied so much across the country.
In the beginning, when the outbreak was in the NE and NW, why would we have wanted Kansas and New York State to have had to have the same regulations/requirements? Urban areas versus sparsely populated areas. I think the CDC providing guidance for the states makes a lot of sense. Most state health authorities have followed the CDC guidance to the letter.

I’m not suggesting a centralized policy would have to be the strictest, merely lamenting that a fractured response is leading to a disjointed rebound, exactly like you’re pointing out.

It will be an interesting post mortem when the lack of preparation for a pandemic along with the response by both the Trump and Biden administrations to this pandemic is analyzed. I doubt we will get the full story.
Trump's response was often extremely cavalier while to me Biden's response has been too restrictive. I think most people with a modicum of intelligence realized that what both men were telling us was often not correct.
Trump's hopes for full churches Easter of 2020 was ridiculous and Biden's mask scare and hopes for a backyard cookout on the 4th of July among vaccinated individuals was also silly. Rochelle Walensky, the current CDC director less than 2 months ago emotionally fretted over a sense of impending doom regarding a potential fourth wave of COVID.
It does feel good to see America opening back up. I have been traveling recently and can report that planes are full and certainly at the Denver airport it was quite busy.
I think going forward we as a nation have to have a coordinated plan to deal with future pandemics that protects the most vulnerable while not needlessly shutting down vast sectors of the economy. It's a complicated problem that requires some degree of sacrifice by all of us, but yet allows for some degree of risk to keep our society functioning as normally as possible.
Biden should do an address this week and burn his mask as a motivation for more folks to choose to be vaccinated.
I look forward to a full stadium in Clemson hopefully this Fall! I remain optimistic but my optimism is tempered by the fact that while COVID is on the wane here in the US, it is raging in other parts of the world. Variants could well emerge that set us back should those variants be capable of eluding the protection of the current vaccines. In he meantime, we have a huge family gathering at the beach this month. The multifamily dynamics and potential for conflict could well prove more dangerous than COVID. Haha!

I will say, Fauci's been his own worst enemy at times in that regard. He's been no more "consistent" in his messaging than Trump was.
He comes across gruff and plain-spoken, which initially endeared him to the media, and the fact that he upstaged Trump really endeared him to the media, but the message definitely flips. And flops. And flips and flops some more.
In the future, we could use some more...consistent talking points, metrics, and benchmarks for success. From the top down.
This was not well done. From anybody.
Not that I really want another pandemic, but we didn't do so hot on this one.

Okay, had me going for a sec.
From Alex Jones, I was going to go: yeah, whatevs, stuff it up there where the sun don't shine along with your Allnatural Prostrate Gitright for only $49.99!, but from a medical doctor, I was going to start to worry a bit, I was like: wait, wut?
