Hopefully you are right. As compared to most of the the other offenses I’ve seen, it’s like an ol’ BTO song - “Ain’t Nothing Yet”.

Running the ball against an overmatched opponent is the definition of keeping things vanilla.
The problem is that no DL is overmatched by our OL. We didn't even run the ball that well against Furman.

Every team has dropped balls. And the vanilla playbook? The OC can sit up there all night and play the wizard. Doesnt matter if your QB moves, plays and thinks in slow motion.

properly execute their jobs. Training and skill development are part of the process this time of the season. That is why we run plays which fail now but will be polished to a glossy shine later in the season. How do you work on that which you've mastered?

We haven’t been able to run on people at will for the majority of Dabos tenure. This isn’t news.

Did you miss the last three games of the past season?
Sep 17, 2022, 6:33 PM
|
|
Our run game dominated three straight opponents.
When we wanted to (basically, when we had to) run, we were quite good at it.
If that were our game plan right now, we could still do it.
It’s not our game plan presently.
Getting our passing game up to speed has been the focus. And that’s a solid game plan.

So yea, they like, aren’t trying right? Makes sense. Those are some serious mental gymnastics. If they could run the ball they would be while developing the passing game. They aren’t passing well enough down field to take make the defenses respect the pass. Complete some deep balls and maybe some respect will be earned.

they have not been trying to establish the run so far this season.
Proving we can dominate teams like Ga Tech and Furman by running the ball is not what is needed.
We needed to run to win late last year and we excelled at it down the stretch. Because we couldn’t pass effectively.

I’ll give you credit for one thing. Your argument is new to me. We can’t run because we aren’t TRYING…ok bud, sure. How much money would you be willing to bet that Clemson will have 400 or more yards of total offense tonight?

That will depend on whether defense can get off the field.

If we don’t get but 54 offensive snaps like last week, then no, we won’t have gaudy stats on offense.
If we play complimentary football in all three phases I would certainly expect 400 total yards.
I’m optimistic, but after last week, I’m concerned that four defensive starters are out for the game.

With the defense on campus there is no reason besides poor preparation that Furman or possibly LaTech should stay on the field very long. If Venables was here they would have been crushed. I didn’t recognize the team I saw while sitting in the stands last week. Hope they improve tonight.

Our O line doesn't explode into the DL at the snap. They come up out of their stance and reach out towards the opponent. No hat on hat.

That's often the difference between zone blocking and drive blocking. I'm not a fan of zone blocking unless your O-line can can move a D-line enough to provide big cut-back lanes for the RB and/or QB. We have never been that powerful on the O-line.

Loaded box, as well as 1st game rust/jitters, and new offensive line trying to gel, and starting a true frosh at RT, and vanilla play calls. Am i missing something?

Lane Kiffin's passing offenses are consistently among the tops in the nation. Every team stacks the line against Clemson.

Dabo had a great run didn't he viztiz®? Does seem like we miss DW4, TL16, Power Rangers and BV. Who wouldn't? I no longer believe "the best is yet to come" because it will be difficult to ever top the 44-16 win over Bama. But I do believe there are many good times and great times ahead for Clemson and Dabo. Go Tigers!

Dabo is in charge so any complaint is ultimately about him. I’m trying to sympathize. The last ten years have been rough and I can plainly see why you think things won’t improve. Based on your constant negativity why would you even think to note anything disingenuous in my comment?

That doesn't change the fact that we may be looking at the end of that great run right now. Maybe Dabo has a resurgence, an Act II if you will, but I can pretty much guarantee you it isn't going to be this year. And I don't think it's going to be with this group of assistants either.

Why is this your response to valid criticism? No one in their right mind would dream of wanting another coach. Can we not admire and appreciate Dabo while recognizing things have started slowly going south since the LSU game and now seem to be borderline nightmarish in comparison in the DJ era?

Because it’s dumb and you’re just trying to be first to say “told you so.” Doomsaying Clemson is no different than the South Carolina fan that always predict a win. You’ll eventually be right but it doesn’t me you had any idea what you were talking about.

I mean we couldn’t run that well against furman. In 2 games we have 1 play over 40 yards. Not really and explosive offense. Maybe Adam can change that. But most teams we play know the oline is a question mark and we struggle throwing the ball. Most teams stack the box and make DJ beat them with their arm. I think that’s why Cade struggled against furman. GT ran man coverage with no help. They didn’t respect the run. Furman watched film and they were ready for Cade to pass. I expect the run game opens up with Cade at QB a little. But I feel like we didn’t run any run play with Cade at QB.

7 in the box make DJ beat you. Ol' Miss throwing team 5-6 in box make them beat you running. Strategy did nit work for Tech either game.
