If you watched his post game comments, Monte put the blame on the first baseman for vacating the bag too soon to charge the plate.

that was all on 1B. He has to hold the runner

so that he can’t get a huge lead and a running start. If you don’t hold then runner can essentially just take the bag without the bunt.

Definitely on 1st baseman.
