I am 74 years old. I graduated in 1966 (after serving in

Mar 13, 2017, 8:19 PM

Vietnam). When I was at Clemson Frank Howard was our coach. We were mediocre. We played basketball in the old Field House, again, we were mediocre. I have had the same season football tickets since 1966, I have seen our ups and downs and what really pisses me off is the unbelievable posts about firing Brownell. That's all I see every day.

You, need to realize that we have an Athletic Director who is aware of everything that is going on. For some reason a lot of posters obviously know more about sports than our AD. John Wooden is dead so we can't hire him. Coach K isn't going to leave Duke.

Bottem line. Shut the f$$k up and quit posting negative things about Brownell. Is that too much to ask, or are you one of our present day snow flakes that feels that you know it all?

Flame away experts!

I am eternally grateful for your service to our country. It's a shame that those who served in Vietnam were not always appreciated for the tremendous sacrifice they made.

However, I very respectfully disagree with you. I don't propose to know more than the AD about everything that's going on with the basketball program, but that does not mean that I can't have a valid opinion about it, and this forum exists explicitly for the purpose of fans like me sharing that opinion.

I, and I suspect many others, believe that Clemson can and should be better in basketball, and are frustrated with what appears to be our ongoing failure to move in that direction, while instead continuing down the same old road that got us here.

Maybe we can start a new board called the ##### board. Let all the upset people have their little circle jerk on their own little board, and stop crowding the other boards. A little frustration is understandable, but what the he77 do they hope to accomplish with the steady drumbeat!? Most of us just want to enjoy talking Clemson sports. And tell us again what makes your opinion so more important than anyone else? Silencing a differing opinion is plain old Fascism. out because the original poster is supporting a Clemson team and coach. So that post doesn't align with the responder's opinion. Also how did the term "keep off my lawn" become relevant but just a dumb statement because the original poster is 74. Talk about not wanting to hear opposite opinions.

Coach BB has not made any measurable progress in 3 years as Clemson's head basketball coach.

He needs to find something he is good at.

Winning basketball games at Clemson is not one of his strong points.

I read about you've seen and done. You added your Vietam..

experience as if it has anything to do with basketball who coaches our basketball team. I guess that gives you more credibility on the issue? Maybe it was that you graduated in 1966? Neat! All you really need to write was that DRad has this handled in your opinion. The thing is, people have a right to complain if they want to and have their own opinions. I for one have no issues with people complaining. It is their right after 7 years. I am interested to see how CBB does moving forward for another year and to see how he can recruit following this upcoming class. Your post was far more annoying that any of the people being critical. You tell them to shut the F up? Pipe down.

Nothing to add, except that I agree 100%, and comment that you finished CU the same year as my dad, he walked in '66 also, Merrell Floyd. I'm sure you guys crossed paths. He went to Clemson on a football scholarship but tore up his knee, coach Howard kept him on as a trainer and employee. He was friends with Jimmy Howard, and roomed with Buddy Gore a year or so. I credit him, and Coach Howard for making it possible to begin with, for my Orange Blood, and in about 2 years we'll have our 3rd Generation Tigers when my daughter enrolls and if all goes well my son a couple years afterwards.

All completely tangential to your original point, but seeing your graduation year made me think of dad. Salute, sir.

Re: I too am 74, share your Viet Nam background, and

Mar 14, 2017, 10:42 AM

most importantly, I share your opinion on the constant downgrading of Brad Brownell. I support Clemson players and coaches and leave it to the AD and administration to make decisions as they deem appropriate. When I disagree with the AD and administrators(including trustees), I send them a personal email rather than stir the pot on a message board. Our players deserve our support and I think criticism ultimately hurts our players, our recruiting, our attendance, and ultimately our success. I know there is a group that believes negativism does not hurt recruiting because they think recruits don't read our board; I believe that opinion is incorrect but even if some recruits don't read the board, recruiters can use it to convey to recruits how some Clemson fans feel about our program. I support the right of people to express their opinion, but I question the wisdom and value of negativism by Clemson fans on a Clemson message board.

I loved the environment in our "cracker box" gym in the mid sixties and rarely missed a game when I was a Clemson student. I enjoyed playing "pick up games" in the little gym which sometimes included playing with Pete Maravich when his Dad was head coach at Clemson. I sometimes tell people I was often picked before Pete in these "pick up" games and then later tell them his age at that time. He was still good even as young as he was.

Way to go Classmate. I too am a 1966 grad, and an Army vet. Did not go to Naim cause I was in Armor and tanks didn't do well in rice paddys. I agree with everything you say. We are so far removed from where we were in football it is unreal. If we win the NIT, it will be our biggest accomplishment in BB history. And if I am not mistaken Coach Brad is near the top in career wins at Clemson. I also remember when the Duke Fans were wanting to run off Coach K because he wasn't as good as Vic Bubas.

If these whiners are so smart, why aren't they making millions coaching?
