is corrupt and the committee is bought and paid for by ESPN ... what' the next fix?
I say a landrush of conference re-alignment ... 8 conferences with 14-16 teams each ... conf. champ gets the spot in the playoff.
I know this is too logical and doesn't make financial sense for wealthy ESPN fatcats, but this is a bigger farce than the BCS.

Just having winners of conferences in isn't fair.

Take a look at the ACC for example, would you rather have GT than FSU be a rep this year(should they pull the upset)? And in the past we've been out of the ACCCG because of a very good FSU team even though we were clearly the 2nd best team in the conference.

This is where having a couple at-large teams would come into play though. It wouldn't be perfect, but it'd be better than allowing some committee to prop up a team giving up 700 yards on defense and losing to Ole Miss.

Even with that bad performance BAMA is still rated at #11 in total defense.

How is it not fair to settle it on the field?

The NFL is laughing at college football for not being able to figure this out. If you can't win your conference (and every conference has a championship game) than there's no reason you should be in. There's always the possibility of adding a wild card component as well, using either a formula or the selection committee.

Conference shouldn't matter. The top teams should be in

I know we hate on the SEC but generally there are at least 2 REALLY good teams in the SEC West every season.
There have been 2 Really good teams in our division the last few years. Us and FSU and with DW at qb, I'd put us up against anyone with our Defense playing the way they are.

You are exactly right - conference SHOULDN'T matter.

Right now it matters a lot. Just being in the SEC counts for a lot in the minds of voters and committee members and people who have bought what ESPN and the SEC are selling.
Conferences should only matter because they would provide a way of narrowing down the field for the playoff. They provide a pre-playoff playoff, if you will.
If you aren't the best team in your conference, we already know you aren't the best team in the country. We don't need you in a playoff - you don't deserve it.
The "top teams" should be in the playoff, but not the "top teams" as determined by biased humans who may even have an agenda or an axe to grind. We need the top teams as determined by winning on the field - the conference champions.

can't come up with a fair way to arrive at a champion to represent them, then it's their loss.
Of course there will always be debate. No way around that ever; just trying to come up with a way that is the most fair and makes the most sense. What we've got now isn't close.

out of it. The ACC shouldn't get more money because two of its teams happen to be better that year. Play the sport for the sport.
