Former Tiger makes ESPN's 50 greatest receivers of last 50 years

Sammy Watkins was special from his first look in front of Clemson fans in Death Valley. Dabo Swinney and more coaches and teammates would say the same from his first couple practices as a Tiger. first decade of those 50 years, Danny's teams were always run first. Then, we floundered for 20+ more years until Dabo got things going.

We have had some great receivers, but Sammy Watkins was the only one who was a bonafide homerun threat every time he touched the football. Nuk Hopkins had a great career as well, but he did not possess the breakaway speed of Watkins. Neither did Mike Williams, who would come in third on my personal Clemson receiver list.

In my 60 plus years of going to Clemson games, Sammy is the best followed by Jerry Butler.

While Sammy was clearly more dynamic of the two, I would rank Nuk ahead of him personally. I know some may disagree and its splitting hairs, but Nuk was REALLY good and his freshman year was almost a throwaway with inconsistency at QB and less than stellar offensive strategy. But then I also never thought Spiller was our best back, so what do I know lol.
