Even if we DID have to pay the GOR penalty for leaving

Jul 6, 2022, 11:56 AM

The money we would have left over after a new agreement was settled for Clemson, FSU, and Miami joining the SEC would be more than we would have if we stayed. I’d like to get out of giving the ACC anything at all, but the GOR shouldn’t matter at all.

I think that any money we earned until 2036

Would belong to the ACC. Now if we could negotiate a settlement exit fee in the neighborhood of $50 to $100 million, I'm with you. I think it would make more sense to do that. Buy I'm hearing or reading that could be more than that.

Yep, I said that last week. It's just simple math but what is not simple is we have not been invited to anyone's party yet and we may not be.

The SEC would rather have us than any team in the country. It fits the regional footprint, we have the facilities to compete with anyone in the nation, the fan base, and the talent. Getting us over there almost guarantees them a monopoly on the Championship trophy. We are the only school to win a Championship outside of the SEC except for Ohio St in 2014.

I think the SEC would rather we be gutted than join their league. Without Clemson, Trevor Lawrence plays for UGA, Tee Higgins for UT, Amari Rogers for UT, Justyn Ross for UA, Travis Etienne for LSU, Deshaun Watson for UGA or whomever, Mike Williams for USc, Sammy Watkins for UF, and so on. Saban would have 8 National Championships at Bama including, incredibly, 4 in a row (2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018). We're more a thorn in their side than anything. Could be wrong, but I don't expect any handshakes from the SEC.

My understanding of the GOR is that we not only hand over what we would have received from the ACC, but also hand over any new media funds we would receive from whatever conference we join. Simple math, no left over funds for us! Of course, I could be wrong, but that's my understanding why the GOR is so bad if we (or any other ACC team) leaves the ACC.

It could almost be reality that South Carolina is looking like the more intelligent business in the long run. That is very sad. They knew the SEC was the future. Clemson did not.

How has the SEC helped UofSC

Jul 6, 2022, 12:59 PM [ in reply to Re: Even if we DID have to pay the GOR penalty for leaving ]

All that tradition, all that money.. how has that "future" helped UofSC? How has not joining the SEC hurt us? Money? You can't say our program has suffered in the least bit. We are currently in the most successful run in school history, by far. What future have we missed, or are you just speculating on the future. Please note that every single team in the SEC has received roughly $200 million more dollars than Clemson over the last 10 years. How has that helped ANY of them become better at football or do better than Clemson?
