ESPNU - had us 9-3

With losses to Auburn, FSU, and USUCK.
Some doubts where around the NCST game as well.
You know I am worried about defense and I hope they are wrong wishing we go 12-0 but I don't know.. Just saying..I tend to agree on this record and potentially 8-4.

10-2 should be our worst possible record

We will beat Awbarn, we will give FSU a run for their money if not win it outright, and Usuck is about to have that streak ended.
That being said I don't think we go undefeated.

but that has nothing to do with my thread.
A little OL play and our team is very scary. I think our D will be vastly improved with a easier scheme to follow.
Good times are right around the corner for CLEMSON and last year started it.

im a big fan of phil steele and have been purchasing his magazine every year for the past 5 years
the dude is accurate..basically every year..check out his track record
if your a numbers person and love stats i suggest picking it up
btw he has us going 11-1 and says we will be favorites in every game but 1(FSU) who he has winning the title (unfortunately) ending the sec's streak
i trust his analysis more than espnu's

I'll take 11-1 record and hoping FSU loses two games along the way in the ACC...So we will be in the BCS game

We have 6 games with chance of losing above 20%...
Jul 24, 2012, 1:17 PM
|
|
AUB, FSU, VT, GT, NCST, SC
One is at opponents home. (FSU) One is neutral. (Aub) Three are at Valley. where we have streak going.
Only FSU, AUB and possibly SC are as tallented. We owe NC State and GT for last year.
VT lost way too much & we get week off before this game.
I would say...
FSU is our greatest chance of losing but i'm still not a Jimbo believer.
SC & Aub are our next greatest chances to lose, but with Auburn changing DC and OC , week one. I still think we win.SC playes at Clemson and Dabo knows...nuff said.
To go 9 and 3 we would have to go 50/50 in these games. 4 at home, one neutral and one away.
I say we go 10-2, at least. If we win the first four, i say we get 11-1. Who knows?
I feel pretty confident that we can go at least 4 and 2 out of these 6.
Go Tigers.

the game vs auburn is going to come down to whether or not we can keep their d-line under check..they have one of the better d lines in the country and corey lemonier is a real nice player..our young o line will need to grow up quick
i feel like we have the advantage everywhere else and should be a td favorite but if they are blowing up our backfield play after play we will lose

We are going 11-1 and, I'll tell you why:
Jul 24, 2012, 1:47 PM
|

EVERYBODY, coaches and fans alike, will tell you that player talent is the most important factor in winning. If you compare our recruiting in the past 5 years to that of our opponents, the worst we should do is 10-2. If we do worse than 10-2, we have coaching issues.
Now I think we all agree that Venables is an upgrade from Steele. Therefore since we will be better coached on defense, I think we will steal (no pun intended) a game from a more talented team. Thus, we will go 11-1.
Yes, we have some "issues" on the team. But what team does not? Every program has concerns going into the season. The fact is that we have recruited too well over the past 5 years to not have a double digit under the win column.
Tee it up!!!

Talent is obviously very important, but it's also about

match-ups. Auburn, FSU and the Chickens all have very good D-lines and if our O-Line is only average it will be difficult for our offense to be effective.
I think we will see steady improvement over the season in the O-Line, and I wish we got FSU later in the season.
I expect us to go 12-0, like a lot of people, but there are too many variables for me to say a flat minimum of wins or else its poor coaching.

And we match up well against their weaknesses.

It's ### for tat. The fact is that we have outrecruited nearly everyone we will play. Like Rick Pitino once said, coaching can only take a team so far, before talent has to take over. We have the talent, as our past recruiting indicates, to "take over". We have a cadillac of talent that will prevail, assuming the driver keeps it tuned up.

Player talent is by far the most important aspect, but...

there is no direct correlation with recruiting rankings due to attrition, FILLING NEEDS, and just plain incorrect ratings. We are more talented than most teams we play, but I still don't think we are as talented accross the board as SC. I figure 9-3 at best, but with a win over one of the best 3 you guys listed, and a loss somewhere else. 8-4 just as likely.

We have filled needs in our recruiting. I cannot recall where we did not. And as far as attrition is concerned, every program has that. However, I think we have done a good job of retention over the years. Yes, ratings can be incorrect. But when you are rated highly by several recruiting services, then most likely, you have recruited well. I disagree with your comment about SC. I feel that we are more talented overall, than SC.

we are, across the board, more talented than usuc. they have essentially had a bye week before us the last few years, while we were battling a conf. team, with a shot at the division on the line - meaning we could not overlook the opponent like they could. with 2 weeks to prepare, and a whole season of film to watch, to look for weaknesses, alot of teams could exploit that, esp. a rival, who bases their season on wether they beat us or not, knowing they are not going to ever win the sec championship, the state championship is their biggest trophy.

I suspect that there was more to our wins in 2009, 2010 and 2011 than our schedule.

I'm sure the trolling cooters don't want to hear this, but losing Ellis j is gonna hurt a lot more than they will ever admit. Their defense is what won a lot of games for them. They remember Charlie Strong.......welcome back!
