How are you feeling about our RBs this season?

Jun 27, 2013, 8:33 AM

Just curious to hear your thoughts. Think Hot Rod can carry the load?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not worried. Hot Rod will be good and the others will help

Jun 27, 2013, 8:39 AM

I expect Hot Rod, Dye and Brooks to handle a majority of the snaps this year with Gallman taking a RS and Howard seeing limited snaps unless he steps up.

Hot Rod is more than capable, but it will probably be a

team effort. Rod, DJ, Zac, TB, and possibly one of the freshmen will all get their share of carries.

Best Is The Standard

I can't remember hot rod fumbling a single time

Jun 27, 2013, 9:40 AM

Bellamy and DJ Howard were different stories.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

His freshman and sophomore years he fumbled a few.

Jun 27, 2013, 9:57 AM

Wasn't strong enough to hold onto it and people would just ragdoll him.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I dont remember seeing him on the field either of those year

Jun 27, 2013, 11:01 AM

he was 4th string behind Andre, Bellamy, Howard

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Still hate how things played out with Bellamy. All that God

Jun 27, 2013, 11:04 AM

Given talent is just wasted! Guys would kill to have his talent and opportunity! He is really gonna regret his actions when he's older...if not now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He actually carried it 32 times his freshman year.

Jun 27, 2013, 11:38 AM [ in reply to I dont remember seeing him on the field either of those year ]

probably part of the reason he only got 14 carries his sophomore year. He also wasn't much of a pass receiver or pass blocker.

I'm not saying he can't have a big year, but the track record doesn't support that conclusion.

Re: How are you feeling about our RBs this season?

Jun 27, 2013, 8:46 AM

I think we will lean heavily on Tyshon Dye by mid season, he is a significant upgrade over Howard.

Re: How are you feeling about our RBs this season?

Jun 27, 2013, 8:46 AM

I agree. I think that if Rod stays healthy, he could have 1000 plus season. He has excellent speed, quickness and moves to get it done. He also finally put on a little weight. Some guys need a little more time to develop and I think he's ready.

Also Howard is a quality back and Brooks should have improved his strength. Add 2 Freshmen and I think you have an excellent backfield. Just one that nobody outside of Clemson has ever heard off.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dye

Jun 27, 2013, 8:49 AM

looks like a college runner imo. He has a sturdy base , good speed and finishes forward. I think Tyshon Dye will be sharing the starts with Rod by the FSU game.

Not wanting to look through "Orange colored glasses" here;

But I really think that Hot Rod is going to show out!! It is HIS time to shine. The kid has overcome adversity so many times, he just shrugs it off and proves himself.

He will be an every down back, but I would like to see what he can do in the passing game.

Tyshon Dye will outshine Brooks & Howard in the Fall and earn that second spot.

I do believe we are in good shape with McDowell and Dye.

Go Tigers!!!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm comfortable that Hot Rod, Howard, and Brooks (who I

Jun 27, 2013, 9:04 AM

think is going to turn some heads and have a surprisingly good year) are a more-than-capable stable of backs. I think Dye is in a position to avoid a redshirt as well if he plays well in Fall Camp.

I'd not be surprised to see us average 150 yards on the ground again.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I hope Hot Rod has a great year. He's a great kid and with a

Jun 27, 2013, 9:10 AM

Huge heart! The kid wants it that's for sure. I just watched some highlights on Dye and I'm excited to see what this kids got on the collegiate level. I also agree that Hot Rod and Dye will get majority of the carries by mid-season.

We will face some pretty good blitz packages and some great DE's. our RB's cannot let Boyd get blasted

tajh could have stepped up to avoid that guy and battle would havehad help from BT if TB did step up... but Shatley missed his block and Hot Rod recognized and cut the blitzing man just in time for TB to get the pass off. Excellent vision on Hot Rods part.

I agree though, Battle is a monster.

Jun 27, 2013, 11:56 AM

"blind side." Odds are TB would not have had a chance to get out of the way and still have to drop that pass into such a small window. Plus, Battle had basically no playing experience and HR was in his fourth year with a redshirt.

Of course, with football being the greatest team sport in the world, a successful play requires a number of successful one on one matchups by "unsung hereos."

Re: How are you feeling about our RBs this season?

Jun 27, 2013, 9:08 AM

Rod is more than capable of carrying the load. I think you all will be surprised to see the type of numbers he puts up this year. Howard can also be a quality back as long as he steps up and puts in the effort. Zac is putting on weight and is developing well, but is unproven...I expect him to contribute a lot this year though. Dye will come in and contribute right away. He has all of the intangibles already to be a star. By mid season he should be splitting time with Rod. Wayne Gallman will undoubtedly redshirt, but has potential to be a great back by next season.

A well-known, star RB? Don't get me wrong, I think we will be fine but for as long as I can remember, we always had that one guy that made you feel confident with the position.

Re: Is this the first season in a long time where we don't have

Jun 27, 2013, 9:17 AM [ in reply to Is this the first season in a long time where we don't have ]

RB blocking and catching are critical to Chad's O, which isn't as inherent as running w/ the ball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Depending on redshirts...

Jun 27, 2013, 9:24 AM

We should have a nice little 5-headed monster in the running game. Hot Rod, DJ, Brooks, Dye, and Gallman. I think we'll be fine.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't forget TB and Sammy in the running game. But PLEASE

Jun 27, 2013, 9:30 AM

only run Sammy on sweeps, not up the middle...

Their going to let Humphries and Hopper take the jet sweeps more often then not to get more talent on the field while Sammy takes Nuk's boundary WR position.

Re: Although I think we're fine, dang I wish we had Gurley. Kid

Jun 27, 2013, 9:45 AM

Said tongue in cheek I reckon. Those of you who are pinning your hopes on the Clemson front 7 need to take another look at some game film. Your D line has great speed and agility, even from the DT's which I thought was pretty impressive. And I get your optimism. There are a lot of similarities between the LSU offense and UGA's offense. The main difference though is that Bobo is a genius compared to the likes of LSU's Studrawa. Bobo won't give you those wide splits to take advantage of. Murray's mobile, he can make a pass rusher miss and connect on a long bomb. UGA throws and runs out of the shotgun much better than LSU did. Murray will see the penetration from the shotgun much better than LSU's weak version of playaction. And when Gurley starts running towards Beasely? It's gonna get ugly. Our offense has all of the elements necessary to light Clemson up.

We may not be able to stop yall, hopefully we can slow yall down. But Clemson has almost zero chance of slowing down the uGA offense. Good thing yall have a great kicker. Maybe field goals will keep yall in the game?kicker.
