Hope this upcoming game won't be like the 2006 one...

We lost a close one that day with a final score of 31-28. The game came down to a field goal but should not have gotten to that point.

To summarize, we got a lead over South Carolina early in the game in the first half, and we were up 28-14 earlier in the second half. From the score, it appeared that we were going to dominate and would win this one handily. However, loss of focus on defense and turnovers let South Carolina back into the game, and they ended up tieing it at 28-28. They kicked the go ahead field goal in the 4th quarter making it 31-28.

Then, as the game was coming to a close, we started a final drive that should have been one of the best in school history, but Tommy Bowden then did a player substitution that was unwise, and as a result, it stalled. We had to settle for a field to try and tie it up, but we missed it. Then the game ended.

We crapped the bed on that one and basically gift-wrapped them the game. We played great but "snatched defeat from the jaws of victory."

That 2006 game was more similar to the Florida State game earlier this year. I hope we apply the lessons we learned from that game into this game, and we play clean and error-free football. Our defense must play for four quarters and not get relaxed in the second half, if we have a significant lead, like they did in the UNC game.
