Divisions in baseball

3

Can not understand why we have divisions in baseball. Anyone know why there are divisions in baseball? The winners of the two divisions do not automatically play for the championship like in football, and the football divisions have been done away with.

Does anyone know if the divisions will be kept in place going forward. Other than the two division winners getting the top seeds in the tournament, there appears to be no impact on the rest of the seeds. Clemson has the second best record in the conference, and should be the second seed in my opinion.

Hope the divisions disappear for all sports very soon.

Personally, I’d like to see the ACC go to an 8-team double elimination tournament for crowning the baseball champ with only the top eight teams eligible and the seeding would follow he final regular season conference ranking. This is what they do in the B1G …

Or stick with 12 teams, but give the top four regular season teams a bye while the last eight play an elimination round to get the number down to eight for a double elimination event. This is what the SEC does.

Or just get rid of the tournament altogether and let the top two regular season teams play off in a “Best 2 out of 3” format.

Or, just crown the regular season winner the ACC Champ and move on.

Whatever … just get rid of “Pool Play”!

Pool play is terrible!

You play every team in your own division

But skip 2 in the other so I think based on the imbalanced schedule, the division winners getting the top 2 seeds is the correct way to do it. If you go to a single division format you will still have imbalance in the schedule but it’s more random. The Coastal was the deeper division IMO. I know timing has a lot to do with it but we lost 2 of 4 series to the Coastal and we didn’t play the best 2 teams on that side. UVA deserves 2nd seed IMO. No real difference from being a 2 or 3 anyway.

Should just do away with them

Makes no sense that we play BC every single year and then rotate to play Miami, Virginia or UNC.
