Home Improvement Boys

The cat I never wanted has climbed the screen on our porch and ripped it down from the top to escape numerous times

I took down the trim and re-screened and re-trimmed. He laughed at that and was out again in a matter of hours. I kinda wish he would stay out, but wife and kids say otherwise

I bought some heavier duty screen and did 2 sample sections last night

1 I just used staple gun around the edges. The other I bought the channel frame stuff and used spline to attach it. The end result was essentially the same. The channel frame is too thick to put the trim back over the top and would just have a vinyl cover thing.

Staple gun seems easier and equally strong and the trim would go back and look nice again.

Do I NEED to do the frame thing for some reason?

Staples might let it sag after a bit

But as far as a permanent solution I have 2 words for you -

Hardware Cloth

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Better answer

Get a coyote to assasinate the cat

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you are successful and keep the cat contained

he'll just resent you and buttdrag across your pillow every single day.

my porch has 4x4 posts and 2x4 horizontal pieces. I had 1x4

trim for years and stapled the screen under that. Over time, the 1x4's got brittle and split. And taking them off by removing a bunch of screws was a pain. A couple yrs ago I got the screentite system which uses a base piece with a spline channel, and a vinyl trim piece that snaps into place. I think it's way better.

Also, I use Phifer 3028731 tuffscreen. It stands up to our labs, and hasn't stretched out over time like lesser screen. dew recommend.

and get this spline roller

Please forgive me, @IneligibleUser

Screen?

Jun 21, 2022, 8:46 AM

We have no screen. Our manservant, Chilton, has one of those electric tennis racquet things and fends off any and all insects that try to invade our space.

Also, if you, as the head of your household, aren’t able

To fend off family requests for a—-ugh—-cat, it might be time to check into a battered men’s shelter.

seems like it'd be easier AND a better teaching opportunity

to simply staple the cat to the floor.
