offseason?
I try to look at it like this: What was missing from our offense this year?
Answer: The Deep Ball. So, DJ MUST work on his accuracy overall, but must specifically work on throwing a catchable deep ball.
Generalities: He must improve footwork. He MUST learn to "look off" defenders. One major complaint about our receivers this year has been "no separation". Well. when your QB locks onto a receiver right off the snap, and never looks anywhere else, it is much easier for a DB to know where he needs to be.
Unlike past QBs here, DJ could stand to LOSE about twenty pounds. He is just flat out slow, or not "fleet of foot" if you want to pretty it up. Then, he got the knee injury, which just compounded things. ANYTHING he could do in the offseason to increase his mobility and speed would help.
All the above play into just overall ACCURACY. He must learn to throw the ball where he wants it to go more consistently, with more "touch". Everything can't be a 98 mph fastball.
DJ will have to seriously improve on all those things going into next spring, or he may have lost the starting job before the season even begins. Dabo has watched our offense struggle just like everybody else. If Cade Klubnick gives him an obvious upgrade, he will take it. And, it won't take four games to make the move, either.
I also believe that DJ is not mentally stupid. If he is into any sort of self realization, he already knows that he will be in for a huge battle to keep his job next year. He will either get better, or he will get gone.

Like most Tiger fans, I’ve been an armchair critic of DJ this year and had high expectations going into the season. The fact is, there was some improvement during the season, although the injuries muted a bit of the progress.
He had pressure in his face every play due to a substandard OL. Add in a revolving door of young WR/RB’s and the pressure of blame for everything being pointed at him all season, and that’s a crap situation.
Yeah, we expected a higher level performance on the field, but the kid as time left here and I’ll root for him throughout. Say what you want, he handled the season with class and professionalism.
Maybe it’s just the father in me, but I really hope DJ comes back next year and writes his own comeback story while leading the Tigers back to the playoffs.

DJ isn't one thing away from being a viable QB. His statistics are historically bad, literally the worst in our school's history (despite the ACC being terrible and him having some real talent around him) and one of the worst in the entire country. You don't earn that title just because you don't know how to look off defenders. Now, I do feel bad for him, as I fully believe he was a very capable QB whom was ruined by Streeter, statistically the second worst QB in our school's history. Here are the things I think DJ needs to improve on:
1. Getting the ball out quicker, both with a faster release and making decisions.
2. Accurately getting the ball to a catchable position.
3. Using checkdown receivers
4. Reading a defense
5. Throwing the balls with touch. People want to blame our receivers for drops, but it's extremely difficult to catch inaccurate balls thrown hard enough to break your hands.
6. Footwork and evading pressure. This doesn't mean he needs to be a scrambler. You can avoid pressure if you can just use the pocket and know when to step up or when to leave to buy a second or two.
7. Being a leader and motivating an offense. Our players seem bored out there, which you never saw with Deshaun and Trevor.
If he became significantly better at all of those, I think he could be an okay QB. Unfortunately, I think Streeter is too incompetent to help him improve. So the best option for all involved would likely be him transferring.

It show a true lack of understanding of players mechanics and solutions to their mechanical difficulties. You are presuming something that is inaccurate.
DJ's biggest problem is not in his mechanics. While he has some mechanical issues with his feet it's clear he has improved through the year though problems remain. Problems which practice may solve if he can get his mind right.
When a player develops his skill wrong he is able to cover up some of his problem with skill, which DJ has. His upper body and arm mechanics are almost perfect, almost as perfect as Trevor's.
His worst problem is in his head. The boy can't hit a moving target. There is no physical solution to that because it a judgement which is done during the heat of battle. Equally as detrimental to his inability to hit a moving target is his complete lack of ability to remember where all his receivers are going to be when his primary receiver is not available for a pass.
Brandon returned to Clemson to coach QBs in 2015. Since he has coached DW and TL both NC winners and NFL QBs. Insulting Coach Streeter's ability to coach quarterbacks says more about you than we want to know.

Anticipation on the deep fall too, he often looks like he is trying to throw it to where the receiver is, not where he is going or would be open, young fella needs to let it rip, I don’t think he hit a long one like he did to Cornell Powell all season.

I don't know why he doesn't know where ever receiver is during a play but he doesn't. He can't hit a moving target. The boy seems to suffer tunnel vision when it comes to his primary receiver. DJ watches his from the snap all until he gets rid of the ball during passing plays.
It's in his head. At the first of the season I thought he might get over it but my frustration has become monumental at this point. Imho, DJ will never play NFL ball. I know he's intelligent but he has some mental block which I do not believe he will overcome.
The sad thing for us is that he was the best we had and will be until his replacement shows up on campus.
