finally starting to find some success under Coach Jess Neely. They compiled a 5-4 record, their first winning season under Neely's tutelage. Although it was not a truly special season, there were some bright spots along the way.
First off, the Tigers opened the season AND ended the season with wins. This had not happened that often before this year. And, most importantly, we ended the Gamecocks three gaming winning streak over us, securing a 19-0 victory on Big Thursday in Columbia. Clemson now leads the overall series 20-11-1. Spoiler Alert, Clemson would be stretching that lead for the next few years!
Washington and Lee was the SoCon Champion for 1934, with a 4-0-0 conference slate, and a 7-3-0 overall record. Clemson finished 5th with a 2-1 conference mark.
But, in other news, Alabama was back on our schedule, and proved to be VERY in hospitable hosts at what then was just Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, walloping us by a 40-0 score.
Clemson played just two games at home for the entire season, something that would be totally unheard of in modern times. All results below:
Presbyterian W 6–0
At Georgia Tech L 7–12 (Close, but Grant Field got us yet again)
At Duke L 6–20
At Kentucky L 0–7
At South Carolina W 19–0 (Big Thursday, Columbia, SC. Clemson leads series 20-11-1.)
At NC State W 12–6
At Alabama L 0–40
At Mercer W 32–0
Furman W 7–0
Eight straight road games sandwiched by a lone home game at the beginning and end of the season. Brutal scheduling, to say the least.
