75 years ago, 1947 produced a second consecutive 4-5 season

for Clemson football under 8th year coach Frank Howard, including only a 1-3-0 mark in the SoCon, which saw Clemson finish 12th out of the 16 teams.
The Tigers opened the season in good fashion, with a 42-0 win over Presbyterian in the Valley. It would be a long time before they saw a second win.
In a true scheduling oddity, Clemson would play football games this year in not one, but two old major league baseball stadiums.
The first of these was vs Boston College, at old Boston Braves Field. Clemson came away smarting from a 32-22 defeat.
The second baseball park was old Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. The Tigers fared much better there, defeating Duquesne handily, 34-13.
Big Thursday was unfortunately once again a Coot Fest, as the Yardbirds took down the Tigers in Columbia by a close score of 21-19. Clemson now led the series 28-15-2.
After six games, the Tigers were a lowly 1-5. We rebounded to end the season with three straight wins, the last of which was a home 34-18 thumping of Auburn. All results below.
Clemson back Bobby Gage was named first team “All-South Carolina”, his second consecutive time being named to this all star team.
Presbyterian W 42–0 At Boston College (Braves Field) L 22–32 Wake Forest L 14–16 At NC State L 0–18 At South Carolina (Big Thursday, Columbia, SC) L 19–21 (Clemson leads series 28-15-2) At Georgia L 6–21 At Furman W 35–7 At Duquesne (Forbes Field) W 34–13 Auburn W 34–18
Going into his 9th year, and coming off two straight losing seasons, would 1948 be any better for Clemson and Coach Frank Howard? The Shadow Knows.

A Pro "75" was my favorite player early on watching the NFL.

David "Deacon" Jones was a member of the old LA Rams "Fearsome Foursome" defensive line that was one of the best all time fronts in the league.
That was a LONG time ago.

Love all the old defensive nicknames from the 60s and 70s. Pittsburgh Steel Curtain, Minnesota Purple People Eaters, Miami No Name Defense, Denver Orange Crush. Probably leaving a few out.
