Hey "MorbidTiger" be careful of shining light on the truth about Cassius Clay...

Many on here would rather subscribe to the revisionistic historical view from the elite liberal sports media and ignore the truth about this person.
The following article does a better job than I can in shining the light on who Clay really was. As I said before, I'll take the Ted Williams', Rocky Bleiers, and Pat Tillmans any day of the week. Too bad the ones too young on here are so ignorant. The ones old enough should know better so "shame on you". Call me what you want but if Vietnam happened all over again, I'd be first in line to serve my country just as I was for this mess in the Middle East.

By the way, Reagan and Geoge W. Bush invited him to the White House and both called him a hero. So nice try on the liberal partisan BS. by the way, he was called hero on Fox News yesterday as well.

Trump also dodged the draft or does that go against your anti-liberal agenda?

May not have been done in such a way as Ali, but he snaked his way out of serving too.
At least Ali stood by what he believed and what a majority of the American public did too.
Truly rings true to the CCR song Fortunate Son.

Wrong, he used a "medical" reason of bone spurs

In his foot to get a lower number even though he played multiple sports in college.
Was able to play collegiate sports with bone spurs but can't serve his country?

failed the medical exam. The potential draftee had no say so in that medical exam. If he had a bone spur that could potentially hinder him in a long march he would have been turned down for the draft. Would liberal media would twist that, and influence people to vote for Hillary?

This isn't a left/right Republican/Democrat issue, it's a right and wrong issue. Those of you who want to lionize this guy and conveniently forget the facts, go ahead. It only "outs" you for the lap dog sycophants that you are. So, nice try in your part. Doesn't fly with me and many other America lovers on this board.

Or it's possible to have a nuanced view of various topics and people. It's possible to view his actions around the Vietnam War negatively while admiring what he did in the ring. Or condemning him for cheating on his wife while admitting the courage he showed as an activist. Sure you can hate him for being Muslim. But you can also praise him for preaching peace. Or any variation thereof.
And as soon as you link Breitbart, your credibility goes straight out the window. Further, the fact that you think that anybody that disagrees with you doesn't "love" America just shows how closed-minded you are.

But it took a lot more courage to do what Muhammed Ali did than it does to fight in banker's wars. And for that, he's got my respect.

That was not a bankers war, purely political. I was involved in it. A few politicians wanted a war victory on their resume and that quickly backfired. Lyndon B. Johnson was the major culprit and he has the lives of many American soldiers pinned on him. A real low life he was.

I have never respected Clay-Ali, and several others. There was a lot of boys who did not want to go to war, but did because it was their country and they defended it; without question. He was someone who worked the system and benefited from it---Hero, not in my view. I spent 12 years in the military and saw a lot of hero's but he was not one of them. Ask Ken Norton his views.

Posed a threat to USA in the sense we were defending our country.
Without using communism as a cop out answer because we all know that was just propaganda to fuel it.

their duty when drafted. Those guys are heroes IMO. Although I can't hate on Clay for making a stand. He was a public figure with a lot of influence and he took a pretty unpopular stand resulting in a ban from boxing. He was willing to be banned from boxing to say what he said... that's courageous at least. Arguably for the wrong reasons for some T-Netters, but a bold stand nonetheless.

As someone who volunteered to serve, can you honestly say everyone should want/have to fight, regardless of their personal beliefs?
Also, you should check out Webb's Fields of Fire (at one point was on the Commandant's Reading List). One of it's conclusions of the Vietnam war was despite the draft, essentially the same people fought who would have without a draft.

He didn't like what white people were doing to black people in the 1960's. That's called common sense. White people were the enemy, not all, but generally against black people. He chose the people to give his eulogies upon his death. He picked white people and black people. The entire issue went over your head. He never hated all white people. It was a civil rights issue and nothing more in the 1960's.

I didn't click the bait, but any person who is naive enough to singularly lump a whole group of people together and also make fun of someones mother who he has never met (on an internet message board no less) has no business judging anyone, nor voicing his opinion on any subject expecting to be taken seriously.
