Apparently Ray Rice's wife now has brain damage....

Sep 9, 2014, 10:40 AM

Based on her statements from earlier today, she has clearly lost her mind.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

She's only thinking about $$$.***

if she got brain damage....

Sep 9, 2014, 10:44 AM

It was probably from her face & head bouncing off the floor when he so "gently" helped her out of the elevator...
(aka: dragged her out & dropped her in a pile on the floor face 1st)

Cause that's where she's headed! But can you imagine how embarrassing this is to her mother and father....

Not just her parents but his as well. If one of my son's ever did anything so horrendous to a woman I'd be ashamed of them. I don't think I could ever forgive them.

this is 100% typical reaction from a victim. Odds are is he has still been verbally abusive her telling her all this is her fault. An abuser main goal is to make the victim think he/she deserved it and if she had just gone along with him, he would never had hit here. Verbal abuse is just as bad, if not worse, than physical abuse. The black eyes go away, the words stay forever. Once the abuser gains control over the victim's mind, it could take years or never, before he/she realizes it is not her fault.

A lot of women don't want to leave abusive guys

Sep 9, 2014, 11:18 AM

And, I actually think these situations aren't always really simple. As she said, this is their life, and we don't really know anything about their relationship other than seeing the video of their fight which ended with him knocking her out.

I don't think her being defensive of Ray or wanting to stay means she's "brain damaged," but it doesn't seem smart from the outside looking in, either. It's hard to believe this is the only time Ray would have done something like this, given that he felt comfortable enough getting violent in a place where it would've been pretty obvious that other people would see. If he's hitting her there, what's he doing behind closed doors?

On the other hand, we don't know what led up to this, and we don't actually know if he's been violent in the past.

As mentioned above, this is actually pretty common

behavior for a woman in an abusive relationship. Very sad. Sure it doesn't make sense to most of us, but the human brain is a complicated thing and that isn't always easy to understand.

Yes, but...

Sep 9, 2014, 11:24 AM

I'm also not sure that all women who stay after some sort of physical abuse fit the profile discussed above. It's much simpler to just assume that any woman who stays must be under the man's control than it is to actually know the situation (which, of course, we can't).

However, it seems pretty likely to me that somebody who would haul off and knock his woman out in an elevator in a casino is probably not all that peaceful behind closed doors.

Re: Yes, but...

Sep 9, 2014, 12:05 PM

I can agree with that to some extent. Sometimes it is just a matter of no where else to go, but that also comes back to control. Sometimes it is just laziness on the victim's part knowing that if they do leave, they may actually have to work to pay bills. Other times it is what the victim has grown up seeing. If the victim saw the same thing in her family while growing up, they think it it normal behavior.

Believe me, I have heard every excuse in the book from victims. They will tell you things that they know is right but always add the but....

As I said in an earlier post, the norm is that it takes about 8-10 times or more before the victim will actually leave for good.

Re: Yes, but...

Sep 9, 2014, 12:15 PM

It's also possible that the victim is an abuser herself. That doesn't justify somebody like Ray Rice knocking a woman out, but sometimes I think we look at these stories according too simple of a scr*pt.

Sometimes it's just stupid people, or people who otherwise

Sep 9, 2014, 12:16 PM [ in reply to Re: Yes, but... ]

accept a certain level of violence as no big deal because they don't know any better. You could see in the video that she had already swatted him and was charging at him when he ko'd her. Not saying that it's okay or blaming the victim in any way, shape, or form; I'm just saying that some people foolishly think it's okay to hit other people when they make you mad.

that isn't always easy to understand.

Sounds like a promotional statement for the nimrods and moral defectives posting on FGF.

Unfortunately, that was probably not the first time he hit her nor will it be the last.
