Lots of posting about Niko, other than ties to Furman what else does he bring to the table?
His coaching record has been mediocre. He's 13-1 this season, but have you looked at who they played? Unranked SDSU blew them out and there is a reason why a team with a 13-1 record isn't even ranked in the top 25.
I'm not for or against the guy, just need someone to explain what makes him a popular option?

Look how his team has improved each year. At all three stops as a Head Coach they got better and better. They might have made the NCAAT two years ago if i Twasn't cancelled. They will most likely make it this season. He is known as a program builder. Also his offensive and defensive efficiencies at Colorado State are very good. They are leading the country in 3 pt % per game. Also play tough defense.
If you look at Brad, He inherited a good program at UNCW when he was there for long as an assistant, but it a lower level mid major conference in the CAA. Same with the Horizon when he was at Wright State. Only had one good season there, and didn't even sniff the NIT his last three seasons there.

they are good. They beat a good St Marys and Creghton teams. Miss State was a decent win as well.
they have a very good NET rating of 31 that is very good for a mid major team.

He'd be a great coach. Definitely a players coach that can identity and recruit talent. Then develop the talent..

The next guy has to be able to recruit and recruit well.

Needs to have a reputation and record of being a solid recruiter. If you're talking only x's and 0's only then don't waste the time just keep Brownell.

Dont be that guy who questions every coaching candidate discussed on this board by locking on one aspect as if that is the only criteria. If there were a perfect candidate he would come to Clemson and if he would we would not pay his asking price.
BTW google is your friend or should be...

Assuming for a minute Brad gets the boot at seasons end...

and that is a HUGE assumption, here is what's most likely to happen:
The University will issue a statement saying they plan to conduct an exhaustive national search with the plan being to hire the best coach possible.
The Athletic Department will then establish a salary range and go out in search of someone who is willing to accept the job for the amount of money Clemson is willing to pay.
In a few years, it will be a "wash, rinse, repeat" scenario in which case, we might as well just retain Brad.

It does beg the question that if you had $1M of extra funding to spend on a Clemson sports program, in terms of the best ROI would you spend it on Basketball, Soccer, football or Softball? The assumption is there is not an unlimited amount of money so priorities must be established.

In terms of annual salary...
Jan 18, 2022, 3:17 PM

Brad currently ranks 8th among the 15 ACC coaches (just ahead of Mike Brey and Leonard Hamilton which is astounding IMO) at $2.6 million annually.
Equally astounding is the new deal he signed back in October will pay him $2.6 million this season, $2.75 million in 2022-23 and 2023-24, and $3 million in 2024-25 and 2025-26 which puts him in the top 40 nationally.

so your point is Brad's $2.7 million is not worth it next season?

I thought from day one that Brad Brownell was a bad hire but I was willing to give him a chance.
That said, I though he should have been fired after the 2014/15 season when Clemson was coming off an NIT semi-final appearance and he followed that up with a 16 - 15 record and a 9th place conference finish.

Even in your scenario of a few years rinse and repeat, it's worth a try. That goes for Amanda too... Although, I'd lean towards giving her one more year since she has a seemingly good class coming in.
The difference, because some will say Brad does too, is we've been saying it for 12 years.
