As good citizens, we all need to start our own “insider” Twitter profiles and spread various rumors about other schools every day. Seems like a big need in our society and must be relatively lucrative. So many nobodies reporting tons of stuff they know nothing about these days.

I still dont understand taking Duke as 1st job

Dec 10, 2021, 7:42 AM

unless he just wants out. I mean being a first time head coach has got to be hard enough learning all the ins and outs, starting recruiting, and developing relationships. At Duke it has to be a nightmare, as they dont care about football and you are facing an uphill battle from the recruiting stand point. Much better jobs will be available IMO, he may just have to wait another yr. Now UVA made some sense but Duke is just a head scratcher.

He has to be thinking how did i end up here, BV gets a top 10 head coaching job and i end up with the bottom feeders of Duke & UVA.

Tells you all you need to know about TE from the big boy’s and how they feel about him.

Sure he’s a great person, but Clemson needs a fresh new look on the O!

Here is why I think Duke is a good first job...

Dec 10, 2021, 8:11 AM [ in reply to I still dont understand taking Duke as 1st job ]

First, they support football, but it's not the top priority like at other schools. With that in mind, there's not going to be the pressure to deliver in the first 2 or 3 years like at other places.

Second, is Coach K is leaving. Come next September/October ain't nobody gonna care how the football team is doing. All eyes will be on the new basketball coach.

Finally, it is a good stepping stone. If he can have a couple of decent recruiting classes, followed by a couple of 7-5 or 8-4 seasons, folks will say "if he can do that at Duke, maybe he really is the genius Dabo claimed he is".

Duke seemed to be very patient with Cutcliff. I think they realize how hard it is to recruit there and that they will never build a juggernaut program like a Bama or Clemson. But they can have moderate success. The fact is, if he really does want to be a head coach, he's going to have to get out of Dabo's shadow sooner rather than later.

That’s what Spurrier did. I know it’s a different era but the schools are the same.

Cutt had about 5 year run that was almost as good as Spurrier but he peaked and couldn't maintain it. Duke puts a lot more priority too now with facility upgrades than when Spurrier was there.
