barkers. I had to cross the street so they would quit offering me massages. Didn't seem like a real subtle operation, but I def did not go in. I was there with wife and kid so probably a pretty different trip than you will have.
Drove through Jaco a couple years ago. Let's say the

hookers aren't exactly subtle.
Based on the sample size of 50 or so I passed while driving through "Dad why does that lady's pants have no butt on them?" a few, a very few, might have been able to legally drive at night in the States. Be careful.
It seemed a little seedy but safe. Kind of like an

exotic South Myrtle. Then when you're out of city center it's more like an exotic North Myrtle. If you want to go hunting for a little "real" Costa Rica while you're there, 20-30 minutes southward will get you out of the touristy area.
From what I understand, there isn't much you can get in trouble with the cops in Jaco for that a $40 handshake won't fix.

I visit Costa Rica frequently and...well...I am not a huge fan of the Jaco area but for a bachelor party it will be fine. Just very developed by Costa Rican terms and the real beauty of the country is in other areas. That being said:
1. Make the hour or so drive south to the Manuel Antonio/Quepos area. Beautiful beaches and many great restaurants. We like Ronnys Place which sits up on a cliff and has an incredible sunset. There is also a bit of nightlife in the area
2. Tarcoles River- on that drive down you will pass over the Rio Tarcoles. You will see some shops right before the bridge. Park your car and walk out onto the bridge (you will see other people on the bridge). There are massive crocodiles you can look down on. Really impressive to see 20-30 massive crocs just hanging out.
3. Fish- you are in a great area to sportfish if that is your thing. Look at Los Suenos Marina are down at Quepos. You can stay close to the shore and go after Roosterfish or head out a bit and hit the sailfish, marlin, tuna, etc.
4. Hike- find a reserve nearby and go hike. Just google search to see what is nearby. If you do go to Manuel Antonio for the day then hike the National Park there. It can be a bit crowded but it is beautiful and has a couple of fantastic beaches. If wildlife is your thing then I woudl spend a little extra money and hire a guide to take you. I promise you will see so much more with the guide vs. trying to spot things yourself.
We are going Deep Sea Fishing and then having a private chef come cook up the catches. Staying in a two story penthouse. I've heard about this crocodile spot...we're definitely going. We aren't much into hiking....unless that's code for something else.
