That is most likely the reason I didn't listen to it. I have some sick obsession with JC's and his flugly wife's music.

I hate Johnny Cash.

Aug 13, 2015, 10:23 PM

I hate every word of every song.

I don't understand how I can know every word of every one of his songs. I don't know why I continue to sing along with his music when I hate it. I feel the same way about Conway Twattie too.

By the way, I do like all the other things. I just always thought Neil was whiny and Lynyrd Skynrd told me I shouldnt like him and as a kid I did whatever CDB and Lynyrd said.....cause thats all my dad listened to.

Interestingly, record execs HATED the brass at the time

Johnny recorded that song. Thought it sounded too "ethnic" for the country music-buying public.

Aug 14, 2015, 10:09 AM

But that's pretty easy when the American music-listening public is so overwhelmingly a herd of unintelligent and soulless sheep.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Really no different than now.

Aug 14, 2015, 10:52 AM [ in reply to What was radio like in the 70s?*** ]

The songs that got played got overplayed, there was a lot of crap on the radio in general, and you still had to seek out the really great stuff that got no airplay. It was a lot harder to find with no internet. I had subscriptions to a LOT of magazines back then in order to read articles and reviews to find stuff, and you took a lot more chances on things that looked interesting in the record store. I also prowled cut-out and clearance bins to find music, because you took it a lot less personally when you spent $1.00 on a record that turned out to be total crap than $10.00 on one that did as well.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Aug 14, 2015, 10:35 AM

Saw him at Bele Chere in Asheville years ago and had no idea who he was or what he did. He put on a great show and we met him afterward. He was a super nice guy and all the folks in his band were really nice. Made an impression on me. I don't really listen to him, but that experience makes me not a hater.
