Trump chooses Gov. Nikki Haley as UN ambassador

Her new job clears the way for Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster to step into the role of South Carolina governor. McMaster was an early Trump endorser, backing him before the state's GOP primary in February.

Fantastic! I heard this last night from a friend. This is awesome for McMaster. Great guy and has a great family. Good people all around him too.

She has two more years to work on her contract

Nov 23, 2016, 9:02 AM

with the people of SC. If I break my contract, I'm not allowed to work in government for 5 years and my professional credential is revoked. This is another example of elitist privilege that I thought Trump was going to do away with.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

do you have a copy of said written contract?***

In SC oral contracts are binding***

Nov 23, 2016, 9:08 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

so do you have this oral contract somewhere

Nov 23, 2016, 9:11 AM

that states she would have to be out of government for 5 yrs?

I'm sure that is stated in your contract. If it's not in the contract, then it doesn't exist.

Also, even IF true, she would not be able to have a SC job for 5 yrs, not a US gov job.

But continue with this idiocy.

I'm just saying apparently very poorly that she should

Nov 23, 2016, 9:17 AM

hold herself to the same standards that her employees are. There is no literal contract. I was making a weak analogy.

Same thing when I saw Tim Scott was considering a run for governor in 2 years. I just voted for him to be my senator for the next 6. He should fulfill that obligation and then run for governor.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The people of SC should be proud that one of their own

Nov 23, 2016, 9:07 AM

was selected. However, if I were the governor of SC, I think I would view that job as preferable to being with such a worthless, impotent, corrupt body as the UN.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he's gonna put her in a tough position

Nov 23, 2016, 9:08 AM

considering he hates the UN. She's gonna have a lot of awkward conversations.

I would think Sec of Commerce would be better suited considering her experience with job creation and international trade.

Maybe it will help her build her resume for when she is pushed to run for POTUS in 4 or 8 years. I would certainly vote for her. I am sad to see her go since I don't care much for McMaster politically, especially given his support for Trump.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The people of SC should be proud that one of their own

Nov 28, 2016, 8:50 AM

She's not going to run for POTUS. This was obviously a move to put McMaster in a position of power. He is against raising the gas tax in South Carolina. The raise in gas tax is not necessary, as we have the funds to repair our roads already in the coffers. Nikki and company have refused to spend it on just that, and instead propose raising taxes to "pay for the roads". This is/was just another grab for more tax payer dollars to be mishandled.

Re: The people of SC should be proud that one of their own

Nov 28, 2016, 9:04 AM

Maybe a way to 'pay back' McMaster for his support...but at our expense unfortunately. By all accounts, McMaster is a 'good man'...but he is still an ideologue...and such people is positions of power always scare me.

Re: The people of SC should be proud that one of their own

Nov 28, 2016, 9:09 AM

I disagree. I believe he has a deep and abiding respect for the rule of law, and he has a fundamental appreciation for the necessity of compromise.

Hopefully it will help with her resume to run for national office in 4 or 8 years....but I don't care much for McMaster, so that part sucks.
