Root Cause Analysis OpEd: What did Clem D become

We have lost to Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Georgia + many no name football teams since our defense lost all of the talent that we went into the LSU game with. Our defense has not won a game against a good team since the Ohio State game prior to the 2020 LSU game. That is straight up fact. If you use the our defense is elite argument, show me a game against a quality opponent where we didn't get lit the up in QB scramble and mid-long range throwing.
What did our defense become:
Venables children or their children's best friends. We had 6 year seniors that were the "leaders". Even though they lost every big game they started.
Cause?: Complacency and Nepotism.
Glad it's a new season and we have NFL coaching. Go Tigers! What changes are you excited for?

I just want Clemson to be good for a longer time than Alabama.
I want our fanbase to constructively critique the organization/business so that we can call out bad management when we see it.
All of this Coot talk will one day makes us Coots.
Now is the most important season in all of Clemson football. If we don't succeed this season ...

Game.
If Etienne had not run out of bounds near the end of the ND game, we would have won that one too. The only time the D really can be blamed is that OSU loss. The D looked out of sync and befuddled in that game for sure.
For the most part, our losses recently have been due to our inability to score enough points against other elite offenses. Even Saban knows your D can’t shutdown entirely an elite offense. It can merely contain the damage.

Hunh offense won that game for OSU. We were looking for defensive calls while they were running plays. We have a history of playing bad when they do to us, what we use to do to them. I kills a team to run plays fast, as long as you get first downs (or scores quickly). Hopefully, we play fast this year.

Fields was also lights out throwing the ball in that OSU game. There were too many plays to mention where it just didn't matter how well our coverage was - he was hitting everything in ways you just couldn't defend.

LSU was a much better team than we were. Losing to Georgia was a combination of many things with both teams crippled by injuries but giving up 10 points to a National Championship was a great crit to our defense. We played horrible against a very talented Ohio State team. By the way, why was Alabama not on your list since we lost to them as well? Losses to Pitt, NC State and other teams through the last few years are forgivable because NO TEAM wins every game. There is no shame in losing, only shame if you do not learn from losses and try to get better.

Nor was it the D’s fault Etienne didn’t stay in bounds to run out the clock against ND which put our exhausted D back on the field to try and prevent a tie to go to overtime.

I hope that the op is a “coot”. I’d hate to think that a real fan would be this dumb about Tiger football. I saw every game last year and the defense was spectacular in almost every game. The national champs didn’t score an offensive TD against the defense. That makes them bad?????

I lived in Berea, Easley and Clemson from 1964-1987 until I had to take a job in another state after graduating from Clemson. I live in Roswell, GA now.
The one thing that definitely qualifies me to be a 100% legitimate Clemson fan is that I’m a graduate of Clemson University. Now that doesn’t mean you can’t be a legitimate Clemson fan if you didn’t go to Clemson. However, coming in here and making crazy, negative assertions about our D when we all know better doesn’t help your credibility sir.
Being an alumni, I have had plenty of dumb criticisms at times, but it is because I am invested in Clemson way more than just being a fan. Blood, sweat, tears and $$ invested. My passion runs deep and my blood runs ORANGE! So I get a little over the top with my frustrations and criticisms at times.
If you didn’t go to school here, I suggest you refrain from making such off the wall, non-factual statements going forward if you don’t want to be labeled a coot. Because what you said smells of coot.

I can do a root cause analysis in 5 minutes or less that will be more accurate than yours.
Why was the defense less effective in 2021?
Defensive injuries - why?
Too much time on the field - why?
Low offensive scoring output - why?
Poor 3rd down conversions - why?
Poor QB, WR and OL play - why?
Offensive injuries, missed targets, dropped passes, missed blocks, poor route running, youth - why?
Root Cause - Offensive Inefficiency
